VICTOR KOSTENCHUK

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vic Kostenchuk on December 21, 2022, at Riverview Hospital, with his loving partner, Janet, by his side.
Vic was predeceased by his father John Kostenchuk, and his beloved son Daniel in 2019, brothers-in-law, Barry Scheel and Jack McClain.
He is survived by his mother, Tessie Kostenchuk, of Brandon, and his soulmate of 31 years, Janet Forbes, son, Brad (Jess) daughter-in-law, Kal Barteski Kostenchuk, Matt and Mel Forbes, Amanda and Kennedy Campbell; grandchildren, Pilot, Penn, Poet, Jake, Derek, Coyote Kostenchuk, Mia and Seth Forbes.
Vic was born in Neepawa on June 26, 1946, and became the middle child between May (Barry) Scheel, Elaine (Jack) McClain, and Harvey (Shelley) Kostenchuk and Cathy (Ted) Kostenchuk. He grew up in a large loving family that included many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He will be mourned by his Chatham sisters-in-law, Joan Gregory, Bev O'Rourke, and Liz Fleming.
Vic had a lengthy career with TD bank, retiring in 2001 as the manager of the Notre Dame and Sherbrook branch. He spent most of his career in Winnipeg in various positions where he made lifetime friends. From 1988 to 1993 he managed the Rosser Street branch in Brandon, where he met Janet, and they started their life together. In retirement he continued to help many people get into their first homes through his work as a mortgage broker.
Vic lived life to the fullest and was always busy. He loved cycling around Charleswood and stopping to chat with old friends and neighbours. He had a lifetime passion for golf, which he started as a young kid in Neepawa, and throughout the years, he supported both Brad and Dan to excel at golf. He and Janet spent summers at their cabin on the Sandy Hook golf course, and during his final game, he was still making pars and birdies. He had fond memories of fishing at McClain's cabin at Sioux Lookout. Vic had lots of friends and especially treasured the friendships he had with the poker guys. He loved the ones he left behind and those whom he will be reunited with. He had a great sense of humour, and will be remembered for the hilarious stories he told. People always described Vic as such a nice person, and he truly did enjoy every person he met.
Vic adored his grandchildren and enjoyed dressing up for Halloween, making snow forts, and teaching kids to climb trees and catch frogs. He also became a Saturday afternoon expert slime-maker. He took up acrylic painting and gardening in retirement. Over the years he was a member of the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs, the YMCA and United Way in Brandon, Camp Manitou and various community activities when Brad and Dan were young. He believed in helping whenever he could.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1441 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB.
