1930 - 2023

It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother and Opa, Kurt Herzberg on February 20, 2023.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 69 years, Loni, his children, Monica (Roy) and Sharon (Stan), grandchildren, Dustin, Bryanna, Jordan, Nathan, and brothers, George (Flora) and John (Mary). He was predeceased by his father Ernst, mother Ida, sister Christel and brother-in-law Hans.
Kurt and Loni were married in 1953, and shortly thereafter immigrated to Canada. His love of cars brought the family to Winnipeg in 1964, where he obtained a Volkswagen franchise and co-founded "Auto Haus Fort Garry" with his brother-in-law, Hans. They successfully grew the business to a full sales, service, and body shop operation for Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi.
He enjoyed time with his family and in particular, time spent at the family cottage with all the grandchildren, ski trips to the mountains and road trips to Florida.
He was a kind, caring person who enjoyed taking time to talk with family and friends sharing life stories.
A small private gathering honouring his life will take place at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Please accept my most profound condolences on the loss of your dear Kurt. From 1967 to 1974 we lived at #6 Jupiter Bay. One day, you let me drive your "Beetle" because I needed a car with a trailer hitch. That was the very first time I ever drove a Volkswagen. I live in Mississauga, Ontario now. I no longer drive because I had a stroke in 2018. My son lives in Ottawa...he drives an Audi. - Posted by: Myron Masnyk (Neighbour in the 1960's) on: Mar 05, 2023

  • Monica and Roy, please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your Father. I hope that your many fond memories will sustain you through this most difficult period. Our thoughts are with you. Brian and Debbie Arnal - Posted by: Brian E Arnal (colleague of Monica) on: Feb 26, 2023
