IDA MURIEL BASSEY
1932 - 2023
Peacefully on February 22, 2023, Muriel passed away.
Muriel was born August 15, 1932 in Minnedosa, Manitoba to Hugh Niddery and Ida Millicent Bassey. Muriel was their last surviving child. Muriel was predeceased by her brother Bill Bassey; sisters, Margaret (Eaton) Darroch, and Jean Ward.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her niece Patricia Lyons, and husband Douglas in Winnipeg.
Muriel life was enriched by her involvement in Bethesda Church where she was a long time member, and made lifelong friends. As part of the church family she was active in the choir as well as prayer meetings, and supporting refugee's needs as they arose.
She was a huge animal lover and gave a home to her three cats, Callie, Tinker and Makiko as well as supporting the Winnipeg Humane Society. She was often found in her niece's apartment giving love to Pat's many feline pets at all hours of the day or night.
Muriel's heart was also shared with her neighbors and friends as well as many humanitarian charities. If she was able to give, of herself or through monetary means, she always stepped up, you could rely on her. Muriel was a creative person who could create poems for any occasion, and you could always find poems laying around in differing states of completion. She had a beautiful soul, and had a glass half full outlook on life. It's been said that her sense of humour and her love of laughter contributed to her longevity.
In her younger days Muriel would spend time taking her niece tobogganing, skating, to the movies and out to dinners. "She was the fun Aunt". Muriel travelled extensively in her earlier years to many foreign lands, but always had her final destination in plain sight.
Muriel worked as a secretary at R.B. Russell School for over 25 years where she kept things in line, and where the students loved her.
Those who knew her, have said that at her passing, they could imagine seeing her running into her Saviour's arms to be taking to her forever home.
A special thank you to Ruth, Rose, Philip, Sharon and Arlene for their assistance during this time, and a thank you to Tammy and her healthcare team for the care and compassion they provided.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Thompson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, with Pastor Mark Wilcoxson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Humane Society, Siloam Mission or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
