GARY HARVEY GIBBS
September 12, 1951 – February 20, 2023

Gary left us after a brief illness, suddenly but peacefully at home in his recliner watching the Scotties.
While it was too short for all of us, he had a full and fun filled life. From his early days of sleeping in and falling out of trees, speed skating, high diving, hanging out in Woodhaven Park with his friends. Later he spent 37 years employed in the Special Needs Program with Winnipeg 1 School Division. He so enjoyed camping with the students. He had so many stories!
Gary and his friend Lyle spent many weekends canoeing for hours over beaver dams and portages to camp and fish. Out of the basement ceramic classes took place, he taught the art of stain glass. Some of his work still exists around Winnipeg restaurants and some in the Rossburn Hotel. Everyone looked forward to his Christmas ornaments and jewelry. Gary made many friends during these years, at school, hanging out at Clancy's and later Legends. He had fallen in love with not only me but my home town, so after retirement we moved to Rossburn. In the 10 years here, with the help of his brother John, built us a beautiful sun room. He loved gardening and volunteering in the community. As anyone who knew him will conquer, he loved people, loved telling stories, loved telling jokes, loved trivia, the Bombers and the Blue Jays. We truly were soul mates, we were together 27 years and six years ago we married here in our yard with friends and family. So many beautiful memories!
Gary was predeceased by his parents: mother Frances Gibbs (Slater), father Douglas Gibbs; his brother James Rowland Gibbs; sister-in-law Sharon Greening. He left behind heartbroken, his wife Diane Maxwell, her daughter Holly Moroz of Winnipeg, his brothers, John (Joan) of Grande Prairie, AB and their families, Ross (Valerie) of Victoria, BC and their families, brother in-law Brian (Karen) Maxwell of Carman, MB, and of course the huge following of friends he attracted over the years!
There will be no formal service, instead, as per his wishes, there will be a get together this summer in our yard to celebrate his life because we all know how he loved get togethers!
Rae's Funeral Services, Shoal Lake was in care of arrangements.

Rest in peace my love!

Any adventure with Gary was always a fun time having accompanied him on canoe camping trips, attending his stained glass classes or just spending time visiting over a beer.
