JEAN SLOBODIAN
February 13, 1931 - February 27, 2023
Jean Slobodian passed away peacefully on February 27, 2023 at St. Boniface Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 92.
She is survived by daughter Linda (Gary) Semkiw, son Alan (Lynne) Slobodian; grandchildren, Lauren (Nick), Jay (Renae), Kyle (Jennifer), Shaun (Béla), Jarrett (Danielle); great-grandchildren, Ella, Makinley, Abigail, Hunter, Tripp and Kaedence. Brothers, Joe (Ellen), Walter (Kathy), Chester (Joy- deceased); sister-in-law Kay Slobodzian, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Peter; parents, John and Helen Kondrat.
Jean was born in Rossburn, Manitoba on February 13, 1931. She grew up on the farm in Vista, Manitoba.
Mom moved to Winnipeg and married Peter in 1952. They lived in the Elmwood area, then built the family home in 1963 in East St. Paul. She worked for Hudson's Bay for many years. Mom adored her family and right from her children to her great-grandchildren, they were her life. Mom was shy and always behind the scenes and didn't like the limelight. Some of her attributes that people have said about her were kindhearted, compassionate, selfless, and very giving. Mum was a quiet, gentle person but she was also fiercely independent and remained in her own home until the last few days. She was a great cook and the family was treated to Sunday dinners for many years
The family wishes to thank the emergency staff and Ward 4 at St. Boniface Hospital for all their care.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, 264 Donwood Drive with Fr. Anthony Austin officiating. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street.
