ANDY DANKA

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our dear friend, "Danka".
Andy Danka was born July 5, 1939 in Hungary. He passed away peacefully on January 2, 2023 at the age of 83 at the Vita General Hospital.
At the young age of 16, Andy moved to Canada. He began working in Thompson for Midwest Diamond Drilling, then moved on to Inco. After a scary mining incident, close friend, Danny Seward decided to leave mining and move to Canada Post, so Danka followed suit. He was very proud to share that for some time, he worked three jobs at once: bartending at Trapper's, running a landscaping business, and delivering mail for Canada Post. Andy enjoyed a 30 year career with Canada Post and was even recognized for five years of perfect attendance.
When Danny and Lynda decided to leave Thompson in the late '90s, Danka once again, followed suit. He bought a cozy bungalow in Lockport and continued to work casually with Canada Post. Danka spent many weekends out at the Seward farm in Ridgeville and decided he would like to be closer to his "adopted family". He bought a condo in St. Malo in 2016 and remained there until he was hospitalized in October of '22.
We will remember Danka for his love of hosting. He hosted many meals at his beloved cabin in Ridgeville and loved having his condo neighbours over for meals (and homemade wine!). We could always count on him to help us during calving season, seeding, harvest, and even feeding cows in the winter time. Nothing made him happier than when we were all together eating a meal and sharing stories over a few beers at the cabin.
Thank you to the staff at the Vita hospital for their care and compassion during Andy's stay.
A graveside ceremony for Andy Danka will be held July 9, 2023 at the Greenridge Cemetery.
