BRUCE SAMSON

It is with great sadness that we announce that (Herbert) Bruce Samson passed away on February 25, 2023, at the age of 91.
Dad is lovingly remembered by his children, Bruce (Sylvia), Ian (Lynne), and Hillary (Markus), and his grandchildren, Paige, Devon, Evan, Emma, Amie, Rebecca, and Anna. He will also be remembered by sister Jean and her family. Bruce was predeceased by his wife Jocelyn and his brother Ross, and survived by Kathleen, the mother of his children.
Dad was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he raised his family on Lyndale Drive, a couple streets over from the house where he grew up. He was an entrepreneur for most of his working career, owning a variety of businesses.
He was quick to make friends and take interest in the needs of others. Dad volunteered with groups dedicated to helping others, from being a counsellor at Camp Stephens to putting on magic shows for the Sertoma club. He also took pleasure in fixing anything for anyone!
Dad spent many joyful years at West Hawk Lake, where in his early 20s he built the cottage that stands to this day with the help of those who became his lifelong friends, including his best friend Carson Whyte who built his own place in the bay. The Lake is where Dad taught us to swim, waterski, and sail.
Later in life he had a wonderful community of friends at Lake of the Woods (ON) and in Sun Village (AZ). In retirement at Bishop's Green (BC), he served on the strata council until his 90th year, and he spent many happy times with his neighbours and his good friend Doris Frost.
He was always passionate about his hobbies. A lifelong fan of woodworking, Dad built a variety of projects from gliders to sailboats. In his retirement years, he took a keen interest in collecting and restoring clocks. You just couldn't expect him to be on time!
