LESLIE JOSEPH KORNIK
Leslie Joseph Kornik, of Riverton, Manitoba passed away on March 7, 2023 after a short battle with cancer.
Leslie was born in Ledwyn, Manitoba on February 17, 1939, to parents, Mike Kornik and Olga (nee Charney). He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sonja (nee Thorarinson), son Wade Kornik, and daughter Christine (Neil) Johnson; grandchildren, Julien, Tanis (Trevor), Michelle, Aron (Carly), Elizabeth (Jordan), Kevin, Lex; and great-grandson Ayden. He was predeceased by his eldest son Wes.
Les' life was one of accomplishment and adventure. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Geology. His career took him to a job in Ottawa with the Geological Survey of Canada and in due course an early retirement. This allowed him to embrace his country roots once more, sleep until noon, and satisfy his curiosity with many interests.
He was a true jack of all trades: a pilot, gardener, artist, mushroom picker, canner, baker, fisherman, loyal customer of the thrift store, published academic, arctic explorer, rock collector, bush walker, and project starter. Many happy winters were spent in the Turks and Caicos and Dominican Republic. Les was always delighted to have visitors. There was always coffee in the thermos and a cake in the pan.
A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Should one wish; donations in Les' memory can be made to the Riverton Cemetery, Box 165, Riverton, MB R0C 2R0.
Condolences may be left on his tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli

Our deepest condolences to all of the family. Whenever we met up with Leslie we always had a nice chat, often about Ledwyn and the "good old days", as we had a "kinship" of sorts because of the family farm there. We will always remember him taking a low fly pass over the fields in the area and giving a wave. - Posted by: Gordon & Valerie Klym (Stetz) (Friends) on: Mar 15, 2023
