MELANIE RUTH STEWART
September 18, 1982 – March 3, 2023

Melanie Ruth Stewart, age 40, left us on March 3, 2023, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her father Jim Stewart. The loss of her father had an impact on her. She fought hard since his death, struggling with mental health issues, and longed to be at peace. Melanie was also predeceased by her grandfather Donald Flynn, and cousin Doug Edmondson.
She is survived by her daughter Jada Kamara, mother Debbie, brother Sean (Meghan), sister Jennifer (Adrian) and grandmothers, Iris Flynn and Pat Stewart. She was a fun aunt to her nephew Carter and niece Katie. Aunts, uncles, cousins and friends will miss her dearly.
Melanie was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on September 18, 1982. Growing up in Regina was a happy time in her life. As a child, Melanie loved arts and crafts, bike riding, swimming lessons, and church activities. Melanie adored her big brother Sean, and they were great friends with Jeff and Karen Stepaniuk. This group of four shared wonderful childhood times. When Melanie was eight, her younger sister Jennifer was born. She loved being a big sister to Niffer! Every day she couldn't wait to get home and dote on her baby sister. Her family moved to Winnipeg when Melanie was 11 years old. The move, along with her father's illness, was difficult for her. The two sisters continued to spend a lot of time together. Melanie entertained Jennifer with made up stories of Ducky and Sister Bears. They put together gymnastics and dance routines and had fun swimming in their pool. Sean and Melanie always got along. However, she let him know who the boss was when they got boxing gloves for Christmas, and he ended up on the ground.
One of the greatest gifts Melanie gave her family was her daughter Jada. Melanie and Jada loved doing arts and crafts together. There was an art wall in the kitchen to display their masterpieces. When the kitchen wasn't an art gallery, it was a pop-up restaurant, complete with chef Jada and sous-chef Carter. Melanie made sure the new "restaurant" was decorated perfectly with all the bling! They often went water sliding. As Jada got older, they transitioned from water sliding to hanging out at the beach. They loved sharing the joys of sunshine and being by the water.
Melanie attended Linden Christian School and Oak Park Collegiate. As a young adult she took a nail technician course, beginning a lifelong love of having her nails painted and bejeweled. She completed the Home Decorating course at Red River College. As a business owner, she enjoyed the challenges and freedoms, choosing to be a home decorator, a landscape artist, home organizer, and Girl Friday, with toolkit in hand! Melanie was open to trying new endeavours and always gave her best.
Melanie enjoyed living in a condo community for the last five years. She met lots of great people, made new friends, had fun pool days, bonfires, taco parties and karaoke nights. She will be missed.
A Celebration of Life service, in honour of Melanie, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Whyteridge Baptist Church, located at 2405 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Donations can be made to Tamarack Recovery Centre, 60 Balmoral St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1X4.
