MARY ATCHISON
Mary Bernadette Atchison (McAuley) was born on March 5, 1938 in Carnlough, Northern Ireland. She was a survivor of a childhood spent in a Catholic orphanage, an experience which stayed with her throughout her life. She met her husband, Warren, while he was stationed in Germany as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. She moved to Canada shortly after and they were married on November 29 1959 in South River, Ontario. They lived in several cities in western Canada including Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg, before finally building their forever home in Arnes, Manitoba near Lake Winnipeg.
Mary and Warren had three sons, Warren, Joseph, and Kelly, and together founded Atchison Agency, a business still family run to this day. In her later years, she spent as much time as she could with her grandchildren, Christopher, Tyler, Kayla, Branden and Sara. Christopher and Tyler remember fondly summer weeks spent at the lake with Grandma and Grandpa. Kayla, Branden and Sara remember growing up across the street in Arnes and later much anticipated visits to Calgary from Grandma and Grandpa. She also loved talking on the phone with her siblings, nieces, nephews, sons and grandchildren when they couldn't be together. She was sharp to the very end, never missing a chance to chat about politics and current events.
She is survived by two sons, Warren (Linda) and Kelly (Kathleen), brothers, Alex and Mels, sisters, Anna and Cora, brother-in-law John, sister-in-law Marilyn, grandchildren, Christopher (Chelsea), Tyler (Jordon), Kayla (Joel), Branden, Sara and great-grandchildren, Bryson and Lucy. She was predeceased by son Joseph (1961) and husband Warren (2017).
After a short illness, Mary passed away peacefully at the South Health Campus in Calgary, Alberta, on March 8, 2023, with her son Kelly by her side.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Calgary Food Bank or Harvest Manitoba. Her family give their heartfelt thanks to the staff, nurses and doctors on Unit 78 at South Health Campus, Calgary who cared for her in her final weeks.

For many years we were fortunate to have Mary as our neighbour and friend. She was generous, knowledgable, possessed a spirited personality, and contributed much to the community, including holding the office of president of the local association in 2003. Above all she was a proud, devoted mother to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. To them we send our sincere condolences.
