PETER BOYCHUK
Peter Boychuk passed away on March 11, 2023, at the age of 91.
He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 6, 1931 to his parents, (Ecaterina and Peter Bohajczuk [Boyzuk]) and with his sisters (Mary and Helen). Peter was a husband (Grace), father (Susan, Gwen, Carl, and Jackie), father-in-law (Marguerite, Charles, Kevin, Russ, Chris, Ingunn, and Monica), grandfather (Chrysta, Ginger, Ken, Nicholas, Heather, Allisa, and Valerie), and great-grandfather (Jonas, Daniel, Ilia, Edith, and Benedikt). He loved his family and felt a strong connection to his kin.
Peter started working with the Canadian Pacific Railway Company as a Railroad Fireman. By 1959 he began his career as a Technical Engineer with the Province of Manitoba until his retirement in 1987. During this time, Peter designed many highway signs throughout Manitoba. His most notable contribution being the design used for the Province's "Trash into Orbit" Project - a highway litter receptacle that is still a unique Manitoba icon for many. Later in life Peter and Grace began crafting and selling Peter Pan Wooden Cake Pans; a product appreciated by many hobby and professional cake bakers all over Canada.
Peter made friends through discovery of in-common interests like gardening, woodworking, building, railways, highways, and lake life. He considered his neighbours his good friends and an extension of his family. Peter was generous but in a way that required a true understanding of the value of a homegrown Manitoba tomato. He loved sharing stories about his life in old Winnipeg, enjoyed listening to others, and was continually fascinated with the natural world.
Peter's memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St.

To Grace and family-my heartfelt sympathy at your loss of Peter. My memories of Peter as a fellow Highways employee go back to the middle of the decade of the 1960's. My first impression was of his very erect posture while seated at his desk, alert and always wearing a bow-tie, long sleeved shirt and I remember armbands. Over the years we had many interesting and informative discussions. Peter was a creative and unique individual. It was my priviledge to have known him. Many positive and enriching memories. We would like to offer our condolences to the Boychuk family. The times we spent with Peter and Grace will forever remain precious. Sharing stories with a glass of wine or sitting on their deck marveling at the pine trees were just some of the fun times. We are in BC but will be thinking of Peter, Grace and the Boychuk family on the 18th. - Posted by: Brian and Anne McAughey (Friend) on: Mar 15, 2023
