KATHLEEN JOYCE MAHER PETERSEN
1960 - 2023
On Saturday, February 11, 2023, surrounded by her loving family, Kathy left this world to fly with the angels. Although our hearts are broken, we know she is in heaven with family who went before her, father David, mother Joyce, brothers, Kevin and Tim, where she is making new friends and organizing good times.
Kathy was born and raised in Canada, living in Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Calgary. In 1984, she married the love of her life Steve and together they started a beautiful adventure. They lived In Antigua, W.I., Prescott, AZ, Daytona Beach, FL, Douglasville, GA, Wedowee, AL and most recently Jacksonville, FL. Kathy made lifelong friends in all these places, her compassion and general interest in people was self evident as soon as you met her. Kathy made everyone feel welcomed and loved.
In 2001 they built their dream house on Lake Wedowee and that was where the magic happened, it's where they raised their girls. Friends came to visit. Families gathered. Weddings were held and bands played. Kathy's love of life, sense of humour and endless enthusiasm for having fun was contagious and she was happiest when surrounded by friends and family.
Kathy's greatest joy in life was her family. She will be missed endlessly by husband Steve, daughters, Lindsay (Alik) and Natalie, brother Jeff (France), sisters, Leslie (Harry) and Janet (Mike), extended family and lifelong friends.
A celebration of Kathy's life will be held in Jacksonville on Saturday, March 25. On Sunday, March 26 friends and family will take part in the "March to Get Screened" in Jacksonville in Kathy's memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or the American Cancer Society.
