Winifred was born in Hong Kong September 27, 1937. She met the love of her life, Chiu Lun Cheung in 1957. They studied and worked together in Hong Kong, Leicester (United Kingdom) and Manila (Philippines). Their daughter Jennifer Chui Kwan Cheung was born August 7, 1965 in Hong Kong. In 1972, they moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba before relocating to Montreal, Quebec in 1973 where their son Jonathan Chun Biu Cheung was born May 22, 1975. In 1977 they returned to Winnipeg and operated Jen & Jon Textiles Ltd., manufacturing garments and accessories for infants for close to 20 years.
Winifred was an avid supporter of her children, taking Jennifer to numerous ringette and Jonathan to numerous hockey events and cheered and encouraged them in all their endeavours both on and off of the ice and in life. Winifred volunteered for many years as a Goldwing Ambassador at the James A. Richardson (Winnipeg) International Airport and volunteered at the 1999 Pan-Am Games in Winnipeg. Winifred took up golfing in the early 1990s and made numerous golfing friends at the Winnipeg Canoe Club. After retiring, Winifred and Chiu Lun relocated to Markham Ontario in 2010 to be closer to family friends. Shortly after relocating, Winifred was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease which began to limit her mobility. Despite this, she continued to enjoy her retirement going on numerous cruises and global adventures with Chiu Lun. As her disease progressed, Chiu Lun continued to care lovingly for her, keeping her by his side as long as possible until August 2021 when she was admitted to Markhaven Home for Seniors. On March 19, 2023, Winifred's life journey peacefully came its conclusion surrounded by family.

THank you for posting Winnifred's life story in the Wpg Free Press. I have fond memories of Winney & Chiu Lun on the 1999 trip to China through CAA. We could not have navigated all the airport departure changes without her! They created a wonderful video, hosted a party and shared it with us. Sincerely....Julie Diakiw - Posted by: Julie Diakiw (frien) on: Mar 24, 2023
