CAROL MATHEWS
(nee WERT)
December 3, 1934 - November 18, 2022
Peacefully, with family at her side, on November 18, 2022, Mom passed away at her home at the age of 87. She was predeceased by Dad (Orval) in 2012.
She leaves to mourn her three children: Lynn (Vivian), Lorna (Tom) and Glen; grandchildren: Colin (Chelsey), Miles (Sarah), Cameron (Amy), Patrik and Kris (Cayleen); great-grandchildren: Dylan, Halle, Hayden, Whitley, Brynlee, Grace and Oliver as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mom was born at Clarkleigh, MB on December 3, 1934, on the family farm. She resided in Oak Point most her adult life moving to the Lundar Senior's Home in 2015.
Mom was a kind, strong, resilient, fiercely independent woman always able to adapt to whatever life dealt her. She loved spending time with and meeting new people whether it was friends of family, old friends at the track, or people met while travelling or camping. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whether it was watching them at sports, fishing, playing bingo or enjoying a meal together. Mom had an infectious laugh and loved a good joke, especially ones she played on others.
Mom enjoyed living at the Seniors Home. It gave her the freedom to continue to visit with friends even as her health and mobility failed. It was comforting to our family knowing Mom was surrounded by such wonderful friends and workers who were so thoughtful and kind.
The family is so grateful to so many people who helped Mom in so many ways. To Mom's home care staff, you brightened Mom's day, every day, and were so supportive to our family. To Shawna and Pat, thank you for all you did for us and Mom those last few days with her. Thank you to Beryl and Chrissie, Kristina and Cynthia, you are miracle workers and you made Mom's last days easier for her and our family. Thanks to John and Karen Gray for your kindness and support. Lastly, we'd like to thank Roy and Judy, Mom's lifeline, for always being there.
Mom and Dad's house was always open to family and friends, whether it was for a short stay or a long one. Their greatest joy was to have people drop in for coffee. Mom is being interred privately, but we'd like to invite you for coffee in remembrance of Mom at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023 in the Oak Point Community Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lundar Community Resources, Box 430, Lundar, MB R0C 1Y0.
