I had the pleasure of working with Deb during her time at the Manitoba Youth Center. She was a great nurse who cared equally for the staff and the kids. She would lend a listening ear and offer advice as well as kind heartedly bring gifts for my son. I am so grateful to have met and worked with her. She sure was one of a kind and will forever be remembered. - Posted by: Candice Toback (Coworker/Friend ) on: Mar 28, 2023

Deb has a special place in my heart. When I was at my lowest, she saved me. She cared deeply for NICU parents, understanding our struggles and supporting us on our journey in a very loving way. I wouldn't have made it through without her. I am so sad knowing she is not in this world any more. Rest in peace Deb. We will never forget you. - Posted by: Karen Netzel (NICU parent) on: Mar 28, 2023

I knew Deb on a social basis in the late 80's & early 90's through my wife & her friend who was a co worker of Deb's. All 3 were registered nurses. We had a lot of fun together at parties. Since Deb & I were both the same age, she'd always ask me what my all time favourite song was, my all time favourite band, movie, actor, actress, etc. We seeemed to like a lot of the same things so we had a common bond. She was a lot of fun & my wife & I looked forwad to seeing her. When we moved to Calgary in 1990, we lost track of Deb. She may have had a tough demeanor at work but away from her job she could let loose as well. I am very sad to hear that Deb has passed away. Rest In Peace, Deb. - Posted by: Al Nickel (Personal Friend) on: Mar 28, 2023

I worked with Deb for many years in NICU. She scared the daylights out of me when I first came to the unit. I quickly learned she put up a tough front, but was soft inside. She was an amazing nurse, team player and advocate for our little patients, as well as for her staff. She taught so many of us to do the same. My condolences to her family and to those who counted her as a friend. - Posted by: Arlene Dibley (Co-worker and Friend) on: Mar 26, 2023

I have very fond memories of Deb, working with her as a fellow nurse at the Manitoba youth centre. A fearless, skilled, compassionate nurse and kind "all round good person". Her sense of humor was fun and she will be missed by many. Put your feet up and take a break, Deb - Posted by: Wendy Surma (co worker) on: Mar 25, 2023

I am so sorry to hear about Deb's passing. I worked indirectly with her at Children's Hospital on many issues and projects. She was definitley a force to be reckoned with and a super advocate for nurses. Rest in peace Deb. - Posted by: Brenda Lesyk (colleague ) on: Mar 25, 2023

I am so saddened to know that Deb has passed on. I absolutely loved working with her when I covered the NICU as a social worker at Children's Hospital. She worked tirelessly, and was a phenomenal nurse. She was tough and oh, so funny - ribald, irreverent, but with a heart of gold. May she rest In peace, and may her memory be a blessing. My sincere condolences to her family - she was one in a million. - Posted by: Enid Barnes (former colleague) on: Mar 25, 2023

My wife Monique and I met Deb on what was possibly one of the worst days of our life. Our son had just been born with complex congenital heart disease and had also suffered a stroke. It looked like we would lose him and we were reeling. Deb was working in NICU at HSC at the time and helped us navigate the early days of this new and frightening world we had been thrust into. Deb became a very trusted confidant and support during that time. I can honestly say I don’t know how we would have managed without her guidance. Deb was a straight shooter and did not sugar coat the path forward our life would take if our son survived. That was 21 years ago and thankfully our son is here today. We regrettably lost touch with Deb as our journey with our son evolved. We are so grateful that Deb was there in that moment, we will never forget how she helped us. The world often places the right people in the right place and the right time. Rest in power Deb. Our sincere condolences to Deb’s family and loved ones. - Posted by: Dwight Iwan (Acquaintance ) on: Mar 25, 2023
