ANNE MARIE COHAN
(nee STRAUB)
With sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Anne Cohan, on March 28, 2023, after a brief illness at the age of 87.
Anne is survived by her sons, Greg and Neil (Colette) and grandchildren, Halya, Michelle and Ace; stepdaughter Cheryl (Noah) and grandchildren, Leah, Micah, Brina and Scott; sister Eleanor; brother Bill. Predeceased by her husband Syd, her brother Fred, her son Kelly, her foster daughter Leanna and her first husband.
Anne grew up on a dairy farm west of Warren, Manitoba and learned to work. She could milk a cow or drive a horse team and attended a one-room school. After high school she worked with Manitoba Telephone in Winnipeg before moving to Ottawa and Bell Telephone. Within a few years she returned to Winnipeg with first husband Joseph Petzold and was employed at the Bank of Montreal.
Anne returned to school when her children were high school age, training at Grace Hospital to become a nurse. After graduation she spent her career in Grace ICU, eventually becoming a unit co-ordinator.
In 1984 she married Sydney Cohan. Together they would travel or cruise to Hawaii, Europe and the Caribbean. Above all she loved golf. Anne and Syd were longtime members of Glendale Country Club and enjoyed spending the month of March golfing in Texas. Anne won a number of club championships and tournaments, as well as bagging two holes-in-one (one at age 80). She played 80 different courses in her lifetime - enjoying most - and including Pebble Beach. In recent years she joined Wildwood where she played three times a week with the friendly group of ladies there until last Fall. She walked the course till the end - PGA rules do not allow golf carts.
Spurred by her dear foster daughter Leanna, who was a half century resident there, Anne was a volunteer and board member at St. Amant for decades.
The family would like to thank the staff of Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care for their care and compassion.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage. Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
If friends so desire, donations in Anne's memory may be made to St. Amant or to the Cohan Family Memorial Fund at the Winnipeg Foundation.

I graduated from the Grace Hospital School of Nursing Winnipeg in 1980. My first job as an RN was at the Grace Hospital Winnipeg in the ICU where I met and worked with Anne for many years. I remember how calm and easy she was to work with. A lovely person. My condolences to her family. - Posted by: TRACEY L FEHR (co worker) on: Apr 20, 2023
