CHANDRAWATIE (SANDY) PERSAUD

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chandrawatie "Sandy" Persaud of Winnipeg, Manitoba. After many months of health troubles, she passed peacefully on the morning of March 20, 2023 from complications of her medical conditions.
She is survived by her children, Anil (Christy), Timothy (Lindsay), and Michelle (Michael), grandchildren, Jazlyn, Arissa, Paxton, Phaedra, and Noah, as well as her sister Rajdei "Dei" Ramsawmy (nee Deolall) and their nine half-siblings.
She is predeceased by the love of her life Ramcharran "Rudy" Persaud; by her father Henry Deolall Jhaboosingh, mother Julia Jasadra Jhaboosingh, stepmother Ella Jhaboosingh; brother Kishore (Willow) Singh, and half-sister Elda.
Sandy, as most knew her, was born in Cromarty Farm, East Berbice-Corentyne, Guyana. Growing up in Guyana, she attended Wellington Park Church of Scotland Primary School and graduated from Corentyne Comprehensive High School. Upon completing her schooling, she pursued a career in teaching at Kildonan Scott School, where she met the love of her life Rudy. In 1970, Sandy and Rudy got married and immigrated shortly after to Regina, Canada where they began their family and Sandy worked as a Healthcare Aide at Regina General Hospital.
Rudy's career moved them to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1975. During her time in Winnipeg, she worked as a bookkeeper for Gamble McLeod Ltd. before completing training as a Health Unit Clerk at Red River College. After achieving her certificate, Sandy began working at St. Boniface General Hospital as a Healthcare Unit Clerk on a variety of units.
Sandy was an active member of her community. She helped establish the Guyanese Association of Manitoba with Rudy. She was also a member of the Windsor Park Music Parents Association while her children participated in various music programs.
Sandy was an avid cook. When she cooked, she made enough to feed a village. No one ever left her house hungry. She was known for her unforgettable West Indian curry and roti dishes. She was also a plant lover. Her house and yard were always full of plants. When you walked into her home, you were transported to a South American jungle filled with tropical plants and flowers.
Through her endeavors, Sandy developed lasting friendships and touched many lives. Sandy inspired many with the strength shown during her battle with breast cancer in 2002.
Sandy was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She had an undying love for her husband of 53 years and was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren.
She is finally reunited with the love of her life. They are dancing together again. We love you dearly and will miss you.
Sincerest thanks to the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital and the outpouring of messages from friends and family.
Memorial arrangements remain to be determined and will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Helping Hands for Manitobans with Breast Cancer in Memory of Sandy Persaud.
