STANLEY HERMAN HANSEN

March 2, 1931 - January 11, 2023

The family of Stan Hansen is saddened but thankful for his peaceful passing in the early evening with family and a close friend, Linda Perrin, at his bedside.
Stan was born in Goodwater, Saskatchewan, on March 2, 1931. His family moved to a farm near Kemnay, Manitoba, when he was seven years of age.
Stan bought a farm north of Souris, Manitoba in 1951. He married his girlfriend, Gerry Hunt in Brandon, Manitoba in 1953. Stan is survived by his wife Gerry and children Alvin, Kelly and Cara (Alex) Butler, grandchildren Michael Butler and Amanda Butler (Scott Murray) and great grandchild Lillian Murray.
Stan was from a family of six children and is survived by sister, Elnora Kardash and brother Gordon Hansen. He was predeceased by sisters Hilda Ilett, Margaret Delang, and Evelyn Sommerville. Many nieces and nephews survive him.
Gerry’s sisters surviving him are Ann (Alec) Marcin and Florence (Larry) Zawadsky and was predeceased by Irene (John) Mitchell, Helen (Carl) Simpson and her brother Alvin Hunt.
Stan and Gerry would have celebrated 70 years of marriage this June.
Community was very important to Stan, and he served on several committees when the children were involved. He served as a school trustee at the Souris Valley School Division for 17 years. Stan was a hail adjuster for many years and enjoyed meeting farmers from all areas of Manitoba.
Stan loved to dance and didn’t miss many in the area. He also looked forward to the pot-luck suppers that the wives quickly prepared at the ring of a phone.
Stan’s family wishes to extend our gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses for the great care that Stan received during his short stay at the Souris Health Centre.
Many thanks for all the expressions of sympathy to our family and the generous gifts given to charities in Stan’s honor are much appreciated.
The family is privately remembering Stan as he wished there be no funeral.
