ALICE (ALLIE) MAE LANGE

(CASSELL)

On March 28, 2023, at the age of 81, Allie passed away after a long battle with ALS.

Allie is survived by her husband Jack, two sons, John (Sandra) and Eric (Meaghan), grandchildren, Jonathan, Stephanie (Matt), Knox, and Farrah, as well as two great-grandchildren, Landon and Lawson.

Allie was born in Elkhorn Manitoba in 1942 the daughter of Russell and Agnes Cassell (nee Cobern) the youngest of eight children, Merle, Doug, Isobel, Doreen, Ena, Betty and Marie, who have predeceased her.

At a young age Allie worked in the local Elkhorn bank and then moved to Winnipeg where she continued to work in banking until she met and married Jack. After brief moves to Calgary and Toronto due to Jack's work, the couple returned to Winnipeg. Once the children were in school Allie took a job at the Family Centre of Winnipeg in the accounting and payroll department, a position she held for many years until retirement. Allie also did the bookkeeping for her husband's business throughout this entire time.

For many years, Allie continued to visit and maintain her childhood home in Elkhorn. She loved returning there nearly every weekend to visit her father along with many long-term friends and neighbours. Elkhorn was also the location of several large Cassell family reunions over the years which Allie enjoyed immensely. She always looked forward to seeing the great many nieces, nephews and their large extended families.

In Winnipeg, Jack and Allie hosted the rambunctious Lange family Christmas for decades along with a great many other family events from their house on Old Mill Road where they resided for 47 years.

Allie remained a passionate sports fan until the very end, especially curling, hockey, and football... But especially curling!

The family would like to thank the many caregivers who assisted Mom during her time while still at home, especially Lindy, and also the staff of Brummitt Feasby ALS House for their care during the time Allie resided there in her final days.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the ALS Society of Manitoba in Allie's name.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Allie and I shared many fun filled years on and off the curling ice, the softball field, Blue Bomber games, the Bank at Henderson and Hespeler, and the trials and joys of being roommates. The picture that the family chose for her obituary was an exact replica of the laughter and lightheartedness of her essence. My deepest condolences to Jack and Family - Posted by: Marge Winters (Friend, curling teammate, and former roommate) on: Apr 09, 2023

  • Greg & I will miss Auntie Allie. We are sorry we didn’t make the trek to Manitoba to see her in the last year. We will always remember all the family reunions in Elkhorn with Auntie Allie and Uncle Jack always coming up with some costume or flashing glasses to make it so much fun. Greg & I have had lots of laughs over the years and we will cherish our memories with her. We hope the fun Cassell legacy will continue on through the next generation. We send our love and compassion to Uncle Jack, John and Sandra, Eric and Meaghan and family’s at this difficult time. - Posted by: Cindy Krawchuk (Niece) on: Apr 08, 2023
