ANITA HARRISON

(nee LABOSSIERE)

September 15, 1945 - April 7, 2023

"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."

A.A. Milne

On Friday, April 7, our angel on earth, Anita, spread her wings to Heaven. Loved deeply by so many, she brought warmth and light to every room she entered and every life she touched.

Anita will be forever held in the hearts of the love of her life of 62 years, Norm; her daughters, Sandy, Cheryl (Peter Atchison) and Lisa (Colin Bodnaruk); and her grandchildren, Adam (Carly), Kyla and Sydney. She is now reunited with her parents, Albert and Lucienne, and brother Norbert and will be remembered by her siblings, Ronald (Lorraine), Adrienne (Tom), Gerard (Vicki) and Irma (Robert).

To many others, Anita was more than a cousin, in-law or friend, she was a sister. Almost everyone who speaks of Anita says she was one of the kindest, sweetest and most adorable people they’ve ever met. Whether you were catching up with her over a cup of coffee and a plate of her classic dainties, getting competitive over a game of cards or travelling the miles together on group tours, Anita could fill you with comfort, put a smile on your face or make you laugh your pants off.

Born and raised on a farm in Manitoba, Anita had a zest for life and was never afraid of hard work. She was a tiny lady with mighty strength. She carried that strength within and approached the highs of life with joy and exuberance and the challenges with resilience and perseverance.

Anita was lifted even higher by Norm’s tremendous love for her. Together, they built a beautiful life with a love that has no bounds. This love will carry them through until they meet again.

Special thanks to the community at Résidence Despins who embraced Anita as family for the past year and a half, and to the staff on E6 at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate, gentle and loving care in her final days.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 455 Lagimodiere Boulevard.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • We were neighbour’s with Anita and Norm in St. Vital and enjoyed visiting and camping with them, we went to lots of bingo games together, they were very special people. Anita was one of my best friends, we tried to keep up friendship even after we moved to the country, met for breakfast and going to play bingo, after her health deteriorated, we couldn’t get together as much but still stayed in touch, you will sorely missed, a very special lady, rest in peace!! Our love and prayers go out to Norm and the family. - Posted by: Janice and Ernie toews (Friends and old neighbours) on: Aug 11, 2023

  • I grew up three houses down from the Harrisons. The door was always open to me and my sister Marci and we spent many hours with the girls playing. I am only just hearing the news in Tasmania, Australia and my heart breaks for the whole family, as her loss would be enormous. So many happy memories to soften the blow. • Mike and I send our deepest condolences to Norm, Sandra, Cheryl, Lisa and all of your families. To my cousins, Anita's siblings, we send you the same. It is with such sadness that we were unable to join you in farewell. It was always such a great pleasure to visit with Anita and Norm. The last visit with them would have been at the mall just before we moved away. There were so many moments of chatting and catching up. A few phone calls were made but never enough. Anita will definitely be missed. Our thoughts are with you. Much love. Collette and Mike - Posted by: Collette De Schutter (cousin (Andre and Gilberte's daughter)) on: Apr 20, 2023

  • I worked with Anita at la Caisse Populaire de St-Boniface for many years. She was an amazing co-worker and all our members loved her. She was warm, funny, kind and compassionate. She was a "one of a kind\one in a million", she really was. What a treasure the world has lost, however what a treasure heaven has gained! I will never, ever forget you Anita!!!! My deepest sympathies to her family. Take comfort in knowing in regards to the beautiful footprint she has left behind. XX00 - Posted by: Judith d'Eschambault (Co-worker-friend) on: Apr 17, 2023

  • Oh my precious friend, you left us so suddenly! Just heard the news. What a special and dear Lady. Like her obituary mentions, she loved people and made them feel so welcome. She was a ray of sunlight in the room: her presence, smile and laughter. I had met her for the first time when we both worked at "la Caisse Populaire du Precieux-Sang" in the 1980's. Everyone loved her; staff, members. Our friendship grew since then and regretfully we were not able to see each other in person during the Covid - pandemic times and again when she moved to Place Despins due to her weakened immune system. We could no longer get together, our special little "Caisse" group (Mickie, Noella, Gratia (passed away in 2018), Anita and myself) for lunch at restaurants to catch up on each others news. The last group gathering had been in September 2017. Those were very special moments we all enjoyed! Since then, Anita and I did manage to speak on the phone a few times, but our conversations (especially the last couple of years) had to be kept short for she would quickly lose strength to speak. I'm glad I called her at the end of March - not knowing this would be my last chance. It was the next best thing to my wanting to visit her and give her a big hug. Life is so short!! My only consolation is that she is now in God's loving arms and I will see her again one day. My sincere sympathies to Norm, Sandra, Cheryl and Lisa and their families. My heart is with you all. May God send you His Love and give you His Peace during this difficult time. He is your Strength and Protector and He will never leave you nor forsake you.
