CONSTANCE KATHLEEN CHARPENTIER

(nee CURRY)

April 20, 1946 - November 18, 2022

Kathy lived a vibrant childhood as the daughter of Peter and Noreen Curry, along with her beloved brothers, Steele, Mark, and Patrick. As a family, they travelled extensively together, and grew up on the same street as their cousins and grandfather in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Family pets played an important role for Kathy, who displayed a strong affinity for animals at a young age. She was a natural athlete, excelling in diving and swimming, but particularly downhill skiing, spending her high school years in Switzerland, completing her final year in England, where she would discover astrology. As highly intelligent as she was a remarkable beauty, Kathy returned to Winnipeg attending the University of Manitoba’s Fine Arts program, and embarking on a modelling career, which took her to Toronto, Ontario. It was during her years there, that Kathy met Arthur Charpentier, a brilliant musician/composer who would share in her interest for the study and practice of astrology. They married in 1971, and had two children, Sabrina and Beau. When they separated, remaining good friends and peers, Kathy made Winnipeg her home again. She started her own business, Pars of Fortune, and was known amongst her many devoted clients for her exacting chart analysis and her intuitively spot-on Tarot card readings. Being a voracious reader and researcher, Kathy studied Ancient Egyptian history, (learning to make her own incenses and essential oil perfumes), and that of North America’s First Nations people, particularly their spirituality, and uses of plants for medicinal purposes, as well as studying Cree, the language of the land she lived on. A rescuer of homeless cats and dogs, Kathy also shared in the lifelong dedication of her parents and her grandfather, W. A. Murphy, in the preservation of the natural world. Finding a peaceful home situated on Winnipeg’s Red River, Kathy was passionate about her guardianship of the wildlife that lived all around her. Along with her delight in her two beautiful grandchildren, this is where she found her enchantment and inspiration for the rest of her days.

Kathy had a warm, loving, generous spirit, and fabulous sense of humour. There was nothing like the gorgeous sound of her eruptions of laughter that could be heard at tea time visits around her dining room table, where friends and cats were welcome. Dearly loved “Grandma Kat” to Cole and Julia, Kathy is also survived by Sabrina and Jonathan Briggs, Arthur Charpentier, Beau Curry, and her brothers, Steele (Judy), Mark, and Patrick; half-siblings, Tara and Peter; her nephews and nieces, Simon, Xavier, Zachary (Lynn), Matthew (Brooke), Serena (Tyler), Jade (Mike), and Sylva; her grandnephews and grandnieces, Eloise, Charles, Victoria, Milo, Jack, and Zephyr; the Vincent family: cousins, Kitson, Paul, Gerald, and Connie, who was like a sister to her; and her three tender cat companions, Sugar, Patches and Lucky.

Kathy’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the amazing devotion and incomparable care shown by Eric Legal, Marybel Ricafort, and Mary Ann Soriano; long-time friends, Maggie and Larry Paskaruk; Laurie Curry and Esther Jarrett; Robert Smith; Jim Harder; and to the hard-working, kind-hearted care team of “Home Instead”, as well as the compassionate medical staff of the Grace Hospital. As per Kathy’s wishes, there will be no memorial services. She would ask you to light a white candle, and consider a donation to any of the following: Craig Street Cats; The Manitoba Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre; The Nature Conservancy; The Prairie Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre; The Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter; and The World Wildlife Fund. Thank you.
