DAVID PIPER

February 25, 1933 – April 18, 2023

Dave touched many lives, who are all the better and wiser for having known him and spent time with him. He will forever be lovingly remembered by his family and friends for his unwavering love and loyalty, his hearty laugh and deep voice, his pride in his successful career and work at Imperial Oil, his love of company and entertaining, his passion for public service and love of community which inspired many, his love of watching and cheering on the Bombers, the Jets, and his favourite golfer, Brooke Henderson, his steadfast moral compass, and his strength of character and stature. His was a life well lived.

Dave is survived by his wife Gail, daughter Shelly, grandson Joey, daughter-in-law Arlene Piper, and stepchildren, Blair (Vanessa) Bruzell, Karen (Mark) Brawdy, and Jay (Sue) Bruzell, grandsons, Lukas and Lars Bruzell, Kyle (Melanie) and Chayse Brawdy, and Jack Bruzell-Friesz; his sisters, Nida Kerychuk, Elsie (Alec) Myhal, Millie Tkachuk, Mary (Paul) Krawchuk, and Anne Diachun, as well as by many nieces and nephews.

At this difficult time, as a family we take comfort in knowing Dave / Dad / Grandpa is with his Lord and Saviour, who he devoted his life to, but words cannot express how much he will be missed. However, he will live on in our hearts and memories as we recall and share his legacy and celebrate his life.

A celebration of Dave’s life will take place at Rowandale Baptist Church, 162 Rowandale Avenue, on April 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., with a lunch to follow. A livestream will be available for guests unable to attend. The link can be found at www.rowandale.ca.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a donation of your choice, or Union Gospel Mission.

Our joys will be greater, our love will be deeper, our life will be fuller because we shared your moment.

Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day.

Unseen, unheard yet always near;

Still loved, still missed, and very dear.

“Don’t worry. Be happy!”

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Gail, Lise and I want to send our condolences on the loss of Dave. He was a big part of the cottage group. Many fond memories of times spent on the decks telling lies. We both recall Dave's magnificent singing voice. A huge loss for you and your family. - Posted by: Garth Drake (friend) on: Apr 26, 2023

  • My heartfelt sympathy to the Piper family. David and I shared a common passion for sports so had some good conversations about his brother Cornel who had been a star with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, about his own wrestling career, etc. I was impressed by his humility, sense of humour and endurance through pain. How comforting to know that he is now in glory, totally healed, and you have been left with a wonderful legacy. - Posted by: Darlene Kaus (Former fellow church member) on: Apr 26, 2023

  • Gail, we are so sorry to hear of your loss. We have fond memories of playing wist at Country Villas and our conversations about sports, including football and his accomplishments at wrestling. He was just a fine gentleman. Our thought and prayers are with you and your family. - Posted by: John & Joyce Harmacy (Former neighbours) on: Apr 23, 2023

  • My very deepest condolences go out to Gail and her family. - Posted by: Katherine Sullivan (friend of Gail) on: Apr 22, 2023
