Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I had the privilege of teaching under John at the Regina Christian School in the mid-/late-80s. I was a brand new teacher then. For at least one year, I drove John to and from school, so Evelyn could have the car. Evelyn shared the best crepe recipe with me! It was a pleasure to know your dad (and mom). I enjoyed John's hand-written Christmas letters for many years, and chatted with him once or twice when I was visiting Wpg. My condolences to you all. John was a kind man, and I respected him a lot. - Posted by: Sandra Heinrichs (Teaching colleague) on: Jan 02, 2024

  • My Junior High years in the late fifties were made memorable because of John Harris! His classes were amazing with his humor and just overall good nature towards all and, of course, his high academic expectations and Christian witness. I'll never forget his great prowess with throwing, catching, and hitting the baseball during our Phys Ed periods and at noon. We were all awestruck with his athletic abilities! Many good memories! - Posted by: Ulrich Haasdyk (former student at West Edmonton Christian School) on: Nov 27, 2023

  • Dear Colleen, Eleanor, Randy and family We are sad to see such a great man leave this world but know your dad is at rest, a peace that he would welcome. Recently my mom, Marty Slyker and I met while walking on the sidewalk in front of Donwood. Your Dad quipped, “watch your speed on the curves”, a friendly and funny greeting which made our mom laugh. He was warm and generous like that. Many other accolades of his academics will resonate with many of his students and coworkers. I knew him to be a fine, well respected gentleman. He will be sadly missed by so many who knew him. (We’re sorry not to be able to be at the service today) Ted and Linda Winia - Posted by: Ted and Linda Winia (Friend of family) on: Apr 29, 2023
