GREG CLOSE

Peacefully on April 19, 2023, Greg Close passed away with his wife at his side.

He leaves behind his wife Rosemary, stepsons, Curtis (Nicole) Stanko and John (Bethany) Stanko, grandchildren, Vaughan, Asher, Megan and Julia, siblings, Wayne Close, Sharon (Harry) Mann and Carol (Jerry) Loden and the Carlson family.

Greg is predeceased by his parents, Emil and Phyllis Close, and his niece Lisa Montgomery.

After retiring from CPR and not being one to be idle, Greg designed and built his very own hotdog cart. Heavenly Hotdogs was created and served a loyal clientele for over 17 years. The family would like to thank all of his customers and want you to remember him for his sociable and good-natured personality.

A special thank you to my sister Sylvia, brother Glen, sister-in-law Judy, brother Rick and sister-in-law Lisa for helping me over the last six months. It was greatly appreciated.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Deliverance Centre, 1831 Selkirk Avenue, Winnipeg. A very good friend, Pastor Ray Cornish will be officiating the service.

Condolences & Memories (18 entries)

  • I unfortunately just heard about Greg's passing today which made me very sad and sorry to hear. My condolences to you Rosemary and family, even though it's a year later my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I will always remember Greg fondly (the gentle giant) so kind and always smiling. I must also say your hotdogs were the best I have ever had. I know that you are in heaven smiling down on your family that you loved so much. Until we meet again my friend, rest in peace. - Posted by: Marie Benevides (Menei) (neighbour ) on: Jul 10, 2024

  • Greg was the best. He was so welcoming and always a bright lite. I met him at Home Depot Leila when I was a cashier about 19 years ago. He was so friendly. He always had a smile and loved to talk about his family. I didn’t know he passed away until today when I stopped at a hot dog stand and was talking about him. I am so sorry to hear about this and I am sending my condolences. Greg will be missed! - Posted by: Jennifer (Customer ) on: Jul 14, 2023

  • As a regular customer of Greg’s both at Home Depot and Freshco I always enjoyed his food and friendly banter. I always looked forward to spring as I knew Greg would soon make his appearance. Greg was always pleasant and generous to others who might have needed an occasional hot dog. I will miss Greg’s good food. My condolences to his family for their loss. • Dear Rosemary and family I was in middle school with Greg way back in the 60s. I’ve often thought of them over the years because he’s a such a jokester guy and stuff in so much trouble but that was what was loveable about him. May he rest in peace!
