Gregarious, kind, humourous and adventurous is how Garda could be described. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 6, 1937, to parents Bill and Grace Todd. She excelled in sports throughout her school years – especially in track and volleyball. The family enjoyed many holidays at their cottage in Sandy Hook. Garda attended the University of Manitoba and received her BA in Teaching. She continued on to teach at Emerson and then Transcona High School. She was an avid traveller, having visited over 28 countries in her lifetime, including a nine year stay in Spain. Moving back to Winnipeg after being overseas, she continued her passion for education by teaching Adult English Second Language courses for new immigrants. She developed many long-term friendships with her students and their families. In her later years, Garda moved out West and retired in Vancouver. She is truly missed by all who loved her.
