BRENDA ANN STANDING

(nee GAUER)

Brenda Ann Standing, 91, of Winnipeg, MB, passed away quietly in her sleep, Tuesday morning, April 25, 2023.

Brenda is survived by her children, Doug (Britta) of St. Albert, Carol Main (David) of Minneapolis, Paul (Lori) of Calgary and Tom (Bobbi) of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Kevin, Kayla Main, Leah, Blaine, Amy, Carrissa and Brooke; and her brother Alex (Winnifred) and sister-in-law Dorothy. She was predeceased by her husband Harold, parents, Edward and Marjorie Gauer, sister Joan, brother George, and granddaughter Kristen.

Brenda studied Nursing in Winnipeg at the General Hospital, graduating in 1953 with a group that became lifelong friends. She worked as a nurse for several years in Winnipeg, Vancouver and Sackville, NS, including a few years with the Victorian Order of Nurses.

Following the birth of her first child, Brenda retired from nursing to raise her children and support her husband throughout their lives in Thompson, Winnipeg and many summers at Falcon Lake. Brenda was a very kind, generous, and caring person. She made friends easily and enjoyed travel and social events with friends. She lived her last few months at the Waverley, spending time with two of her good friends from nursing.

Brenda was always most interested in her time with family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her favourite events were family dinners and visits with her children and grandchildren. A proud Grandma, Brenda kept an extensive collection of her grandchildren's art and prose. Most of her best friends were family: her mother, her sister, her children, and of course, her husband. Brenda's 55 years of marriage to Harold were the best years of her life. They truly were a perfect couple. She missed him dearly after his passing, and she will be missed by all who knew her. Brenda will be remembered as a wonderful person who, in her words, "had a good life!"

Brenda's family would like to acknowledge the support and kindness of extended family, friends, and the staff at Victoria General Hospital, especially Dorothy Gauer for her care and friendship in the years since Harold's passing.

The family will be holding a private celebration of Brenda's life at a later date.
