RONALD BRIAN PERRON

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we share the passing of Ronald Perron, age 79. He passed away on April 26, 2023, of lung cancer. He was a loved husband and dad, beloved “Niner”, and a witty, trusted and loyal friend to many.

Ron joins his mom and dad, Laurent and Dorilla (Lahaie) and his brother Raymond in Heaven. He leaves to mourn his wife Anita (nee Rocan), his sister Kathleen, and his four children, Kim (Keith) Moore, Jeffrey, Jocelyn (Laura), and Joel. He also leaves to mourn nephew Martin (Jennifer), grandchildren, Daniel, Roxanne (Dalain), Travis, Alysha (Adam), Brendyn (Jana), Julia, and Harmony, and great-grandchildren, Jace, Alex, Zach, Wyatt, Averi, and Kali, and friends around the globe.

Ron grew up in St-Pierre Jolys. The Lahaie homestead where his Pepere and Uncle Johnny lived was a second home. Ron left St-Pierre to attend CUSB where he met Anita and his life changed forever. Ron married his soulmate in August 1965, and they moved to St-Jean Baptiste where they began their teaching careers. Ron became principal of ICSJB in 1969 and remained principal there until 1987 when he became superintendent of the Red River School Division until his retirement.

Ron was a talented athlete who loved playing sports. He played fastball for the St-Jean Brewers, played in goal for the Senators, curled in numerous bonspiels and enjoyed spending his free time with his family or watching his grandkids on the field. While playing ball in Vassar, Ron found a lot at Buffalo Point where the family built a cabin. Here, Ron fished, golfed, and enjoyed life immensely.

Ron made so many friendships through his education career and through all his travels. Ixtapa became his favourite destination where he spent numerous winters with Anita, friends and family.

Throughout his entire journey, Ron cracked jokes, made silly faces with the little kids, and even pulled some light-hearted pranks on the nurses. He had a great ability to make others smile and his sense of humour will be missed.

In his spare time, Ron was a gifted artist and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. Ron’s vision in education transformed so many lives. His legacy will live on through his thousand teachings. Ron’s love for his wife and family was very well known and his love of life didn’t come to an end with his death. His memory will live forever in all the stories we will continue to share. Ron was the most gentle, loving, affectionate, funny, generous, amazing man - and he will be missed immensely.

The family wants to thank the staff at the Victoria Hospital.

The service for his Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on May 10, 2023, at the Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota Street, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation, 18 Burndale Rd., Ottawa, ON K1B 3Y5.

Jocelyne Aubin xx - Posted by: Jocelyne Aubin (amie) on: May 08, 2023

  • Rest easy, old friend. Although I was never witness to your prowess on the athletic field, I certainly was for the larger race that we must all run. As for that "larger race", you ran it very well, indeed, and Red River School Division and the Red River Technical and Vocational Area were surely the considerable beneficiaries thereof. When the end of your "larger race" was nigh, you met that ending's inevitability with unfailing grace and courage - and for that you also deserved commendation. As for Anita and your children, I had already offered support and sympathy, but reiteration never hurts - so please consider that reiteration has occurred herein! - Posted by: Keith Bricknell (Colleague and Friend) on: May 06, 2023

  • Chère Anita et famille, Mes plus sincères condoléances. Ron était un homme de convictions et d’amour. Anita, je pense à toi très fort et je t’envoie des caresses de douceur. Dolorès - Posted by: Dolorès Beaumont (Amie) on: May 06, 2023

  • Ron was an early mentor during our high school years in St. Jean. I learned to behave in class, During school hours, Ron was a no nonsense Principal!! His tie slightly undone, ruffled hair, eyes that looked right through you and physical presence, made you very aware that he was not to be messed with. Outside school hours Ron was a loyal teammate and mentor to those young athletes who had an opportunity to be on his teams. With Anita by his side they were a formidable motivating duo! Ron will always be fondly remembered for his mentoring, leadership and friendship in our formative years. I hope heaven is ready for him. - Posted by: Rob Saurette (Friend-Teammate-St. Jean Student) on: May 06, 2023
