WALLY OLENSKY

April 27, 1928 - May 2, 2023

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Wally Olensky at Park Manor Care on May 2, 2023.

Wally now joins the love of his life Nancy. Wally is survived by his brother John; children, Jeff (Debbie) and Marianne (Rob); grandchildren, Kristin (Andrew), Kyle, Colin, and great-grandchildren, Maddison, and Logan.

Wally was born on April 27, 1928, he grew up in the Point Douglas neighbourhood and attended Norquay School and St. John’s Technical High School. He took part in many musicals, one being The Pirates of Penzance. Wally worked at CP Rail for 40 years. He was always immensely proud that this was his one and only job.

Wally met the love of his life Nancy, and they married on October 31, 1959. He would always say “He never took his mask off since!” He of course loved his jokes and many puns. Wally would never miss any of Jeff or Marianne’s sporting/dance events and be always willing to drive others to their events too. They went on many camping trips and spent a lot of time out at West Hawk Lake.

In 1988 Wally and Nancy had the pleasure of raising their granddaughter, Kristin. That brought Wally to volunteer at Frontenac School for 20 years. Kristin and Wally attended many concerts together, his favourite being Johnny Reid.

Wally had a passion for music and would always show it by singing when someone walked into the room. He also loved his french fries and would tell you the best are at Vickie's Snack Shop in Beausejour.

Wally loved gardening and always made sure his flowers were bright and beautiful. He loved all sports. You would often find him on his couch in his Bittersweet home watching whatever was on TSN and a crossword in hand. In 2019 Wally was one of the first people at Portage and Main to celebrate the Blue Bombers Victory. He loved attending Jets games.

Wally never let age get in his way and always acted much younger. He touched many lives and will live in all our hearts forever.

A special thank you goes out to Valerie, Peter, and John for their many visits and to the staff at Park Manor Care for taking great care of our Papa for the past two years.

A service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Korban Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or The Alzheimer Society.
