Don passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Sunday, May 7, 2023, with his family by his side.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Kelly (Daria, Cameron, Leah), Jessie (Alex, Leo), and his favourite nephew and godson Mike (Myriame). He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Pauline Orloff and his brother Rick.
Don was born in Winnipeg on November 28, 1943 and grew up on Monroe Avenue in East Kildonan. He graduated from Miles MacDonnell Collegiate in 1962. After high school he worked at CP Rail, Salisbury House, CIBC, and Federated Insurance. During this time, he earned a business education diploma from Red River and a B.Ed from the University of Manitoba. Don taught at Kildonan East Collegiate from 1972 to 1995 and then at a couple of nearby junior highs until 2002. Mr. Orloff was a K.E. legend. Former students will remember his unique teaching style and mannerisms.
Don married Patricia MacGillivray in 1968. Don and Patsy raised their family on Fieldstone Bay in sunny St. James. He was an avid reader. He remained friends with his book group dating back over 45 years. After Don retired, he spent his time reading, travelling, walking, and riding his bike. Once the grandchildren arrived, he became a fixture in hockey rinks and soccer fields around the city. Grandpa Don was very proud of Cameron, Alex, Leah, and Leo. He was dearly loved and he will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.

Sorry to hear about your father, Kelly. I remember well the days you and Adam cycled in Bird's Hill Park and Don and I watched and relaxed and enjoyed the outdoors. - Posted by: Ron Parkinson (friend) on: May 13, 2023

My sincere condolences to Mr. Orloff's family. I had the privilege to be one of his students for the years 1972-74 and thoroughly enjoyed his teaching style, topics covered (business law and economics), his sense of humour and knowledge which he passed on to us. He was one of our best teachers ever and is still remembered fondly by my former classmates and I with our sincere respect and thanks! Rest in peace Mr. Orloff! - Posted by: Joyce Hooper (Student at Kildonan East Collegiate 1972-74) on: May 13, 2023

One of my favorite teacher colleagues I had the pleasure to spend time with as well as neighboring classrooms. He loved a good social gathering, had a great sense of humor and was a wealth of knowledge. A very lovely man! Rest in Peace Don! - Posted by: Andrea Sever (Friend and Colleague) on: May 12, 2023

While I did not know Don personally, I was in 10th grade when he was graduating from 12th. I currently live in Portland, Maine and receive obit notices from the Winnipeg Free Press. I noticed his name and it rang a bell. I went to my 1962 yearbook and sure enough was able to locate his name and picture. My sincere condolences to the family and all those he left.
