BERTHA (BERT) ELIZABETH KIRBY

Bertha (Bert) Elizabeth Kirby (nee Schwartz) was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba July 1, 1929, and left this earth April 1, 2023.



Her parents William and Natalie Schwartz (nee Drewitz) immigrated to Canada from Poland and Russia. Bert recalled a wonderful childhood and enjoyed school and the friends she made. As the youngest of four, she got away with refusing to weed the garden, which was the only real chore she remembered having.



After meeting and marrying the love of her life Ross Kirby, they relocated to Vancouver from Winnipeg where she mainly worked in the insurance industry. A social butterfly, Bert enjoyed many activities and groups. In particular, she was an avid organ club member and supporter long after she stopped playing. Her walking group walked many miles, enjoyed endless cups of coffee and muffins afterwards and friendships lasting till the present day.



Predeceased by her parents, brother Walter (Wally), sister Lillian, brother Paul, and husband Ross, Bert’s memory will remain in our thoughts and hearts.



Bert is sadly missed by nephews, Don and Greg Schwartz, nieces, Barb Weshnowski and Linda Lurvey and their families, and godchildren, Patricia Lobel, Julie Loverin, and Gerry Edwards as well as a multitude of friends.



We are comforted knowing that Bert and Ross are together again.



A private interment will be held July 7, 2023.
