It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Kavanagh on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at St. Boniface Hospital.
Predeceased by her husband Peter; mother Clara; father Donald; sister Anne. She leaves behind her sons, Jonathan (Cindy) and James (Lori); grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler and Sarah. Margaret was born in a small village in Leicestshire, England.
The family eventually settled in South Devon in the village of Cornwood. She was educated at St. Dunstan's Abbey in Plymouth. Trained as a registered nurse at Southmead Hospital Bristol. While working as an emergency nurse, she met Peter Kavanagh, the love of her life, and they were married ten months later. Both boys were born in Bristol. In 1970, the family moved to Canada following friend, Ron, who came to Winnipeg five years earlier.
Over the next 33 years, she worked in the OU, NFA, ER and the Surgical Program where she stayed until retirement in 2003. She curled in a mixed curling league with Pete and they both sang in the St. Ignatius Church Adult Choir. She volunteered at CancerCare St. Boniface, Habitat for Humanity, the Victoria Hospital Patient Voice Committee and Siloam Mission. Her family were very important to her, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and in her English garden.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford Street.
The family would like to thank the Oncology Team and a special thanks to the Palliative Care Staff on 8.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Research Foundation.
