Sam Hochman, known to many as Sammy, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023 at 2:30 a.m. at the Simkin Centre in Winnipeg, at the age of 86. Sam was born on July 11, 1936, the son of Abraham and Rose Hochman.
Sam devoted his life to hard work. He began his working career at Oasis Delicatessen with his twin brother Ben "Benny", father Abraham, and brother-in-law Max Goldberg. Later, he and his wife Jackie and son Marshall opened up the Dollars and Cents store. Sam was a sweet and gentle man, with a sharp and playful wit, and he was loved and cherished by all who knew him.
Sam leaves his wife of many years, Jacqueline "Jackie" Lorraine Hochman, as well as his three children, Marshall, Shawn (Karen), and Robyn. Sam was the proud grandfather of three grandchildren: Freya (and her boyfriend Spencer), Hannah (John), and Daniel (Jodi). Additionally, Sam was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Ava and Haisley.
Sam's parents, Abraham and Rose, predecease him, as do his sisters, Florence, Sarah, Dora, Betty, and brother Gordon "Gordie". He is survived by his sister Clara and brother Benny, and many nieces and nephews.
As a Jewish man by birth, Sam's Hebrew name was Shmuel. He will be remembered for his indomitable spirit, his fierce loving nature, his playful wit, his warm smile and his unwavering kindness. He will be deeply missed by his family, and all those whose lives he touched throughout his life. May his memory be a blessing to us all.

Dear Jackie, Marshall, Shawn and Karen and dearest Robyn and Freya..I am sending all my love to you at this time of great, intense living. I'm so glad you have each other to remember and laugh and hold each other up thinking of sweet, mischievous, naughty Sammy. He filled many of my days with laughter sending Robyn ridiculous jokes which she passed on to me: he once had me "going" for almost half an hour that I had let Robyn beloved CAT out when I was looking after her place. Sammy always had a quick smile, warm hugs and his ability to make people feel heard and important was unmatched. May his memory be a blessing. xoxo - Posted by: Jacquie Sinclair (Friend of the family) on: Jun 06, 2023
