With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Lissenberg-Atsma on June 1, 2023, at 81 years of age at Bevan Care Home in Abbotsford, BC.
Dorothy was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be missed by her loving husband Gaele Atsma of 14 years, children Robert (Sandy), Karen, John (Annette), and David. She was loved by her grandchildren Amanda (Michael), Tasha (Andrew), Daniel, Luke (Alison), Katie, Hannah, and Ashley (David), and great-grandchildren Madison, Owen, Anne-Marie, and Jackson. Dorothy was survived by her husband Gaele, siblings Jean, John (Agnes), Linda (Joe), and Henry (Marilyn), along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son in law Jim VandenBerg (Karen), brother in law Fred Vette (Jean), first husband of 44 years Gary Lissenberg, father William VanDorp and mother Eva VanDorp-Stuve.
Dorothy was born in Winnipeg and raised in Blackdale, MB. In her life her loves were family, friends, pets (especially her cats), faith, cooking, gardening, knitting, volunteering, and in her later years long chats with her children. Dorothy moved to Abbotsford, BC in July of 2009 upon her marriage to Gaele Atsma. She will be missed by Gaele's family and friends that she made while in BC.
Dorothy's Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4477 Main St, West St Paul, MB. The family appreciates the compassionate care that Bevan Care Home in Abbotsford provided to Dorothy.
