MICHAEL FRASER PADDON

November 20, 1932 - June 4, 2023

As Dad lived his life, he also left this life, with peace and dignity.

He is sadly missed by his four children, Neal (Mary), Andrew, Julia (Rod) and Lisa (Matthew); grandchildren, Jarrod, Grayson, Cole, Tyler, Graham, Sydney and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Addison and Melody; sister Ann Ellis and many nieces and nephews.

Dad was predeceased by his wife Barbara (Horne), Sheila (Fleming), parents, Marjorie and Gordon and sisters, Brenda Ormiston and Linda Rawson.

Dad was born in Vancouver, BC and moved to Winnipeg in 1939. He graduated from St John’s Ravenscourt High School and became a cadet with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders in 1955. He and his father began a small floral business which blossomed into Paddon Wholesale Florist Ltd. in East St Paul. Dad was an astute businessman who grew the company until he retired in 1996. He was an active member of Flowers Canada for many years. He spent most of his adult life in Windsor Park, then moved to the Canoe Club Retirement Residence which he loved.

Dad became a member of the Winnipeg Squash Racquet Club in 1952. He was the longest active member at the Squash Club, and was proud to receive an honorary membership in 2012. He cherished the lifelong friendships made throughout his years at the club.

Dad’s happiest moments were spent at the cottage at Caddy Lake surrounded by family and friends. He and Sheila also created wonderful memories travelling on many cruises.

Many thanks to Dr. P. Mehta and Dr. R. Van for their compassionate care.

A private family service will be held at Glen Lawn Cemetery.

Family and friends may sign a book of condolence at www.glenlawn.ca.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Sheila and Michael were a constant when we moved to the Canoe Club, where our dining tables abutted. They always were early to their table and never failed to chat with us when we arrived. They were fine people, always friendly and warm. We were distressed when Michael lost Sheila and are sad to know that Michael is no longer with us. Everyone here knew and respected them. Our condolences go out to the family. Sheila and Michael cared for each other and had a long life together, which was a blessing. - Posted by: Evelyn and Arthur Arkin (Friends) on: Jun 17, 2023

They have been patients of ours for many years and we always looked forward to seeing them. They will be missed. • Mike was always incredibly kind to me and my grandmother. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word. I will never forget the care and compassion he showed me in my most difficult times. May he rest in peace and rise in glory! - Posted by: Chris Salstrom (Friend and fellow parishoner) on: Jun 10, 2023
