SHIRLEY EILEEN ANS

It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Eileen Ans announces her passing on May 31, 2023, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Shirley was born on October 3, 1928 near Winnipeg into two pioneering families, the Hedges and the Isbisters, and grew up in what is now the St. Charles and Charleswood areas. She excelled at school and pursued a university education through scholarships until her marriage in 1948.
Shirley loved to dance and would square dance, round dance, or just move to music that only she may be hearing. She was rarely still for any length of time and if she was sitting then she would knit beautiful garments, do intricate needle-point pieces or work on completing crossword puzzles (in ink).
She will be remembered by her children, Randy (Cyrena), Cheryl (Bob), Brad (Sharon), and Grant (Colette); her grandchildren, Jody, Kendra, Kailee, Delaney; two stepgrandchildren, Charlotte, Paul; and two great-grandchildren, Dax and Genevieve. She is survived by sisters, Shannon and Sherry; and brother Arnold. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles Hedges and Anne Morrissette; her brother Neville; her husband of 67 years Norman; and their daughter Beverly (Nevio).
A sincere thanks to Bob, (son number 4), Brett and Linda for not only their long AA relationship, but for their friendship and assistance during the last few years.
A Celebration of Life will be held for immediate family at a later date.

  • Shirley was an incredible woman and I’m grateful for the time that I got to spend with her. She always had a kind word for those who needed it but she also taught me not to tolerate too many shenanigans and I’ll always appreciate that type of wisdom that she gave me. My love and warm thoughts go to all who will miss her. - Posted by: Breana (Friend) on: Jun 17, 2023
