It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Wiebe, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Edward was born on August 31, 1929, in Winkler, Manitoba and passed away peacefully on June 16, 2023 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Edward was predeceased by his beloved wife Anne Wiebe (Wiebe); daughter Cassandra Ruth Lord (Wiebe); brothers, Jake Wiebe and William Wiebe; and sister Mary Kroeker. He is survived by his daughter Candace Thiessen (Wally) and grandson Joey Kohinski and great-grandchildren, Isabella and Keaton; grandson Curtis Kohinski and great-granddaughter Emma; and granddaughter Cassandra Kohinski (Azam); sisters, Martha (Victor) Krahn, Esther (Edwin) Peters, Margaret (Henry) Toews and Dora Klassen and Tina Wiebe, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Edward and his new wife moved to Winnipeg in 1957, where he drove truck for Motorways and then became a Trailer Mechanic for the same company for 30 plus years. Dad loved going on road trips with his family. Cassandra and I learned to duck when his arm came over the seat when we were fighting.
He had a passion for classic cars, restoring them and driving them. Retirement did not stop him from being busy. A true handyman. “Dad, can you fix this door!” “Dad, the car won’t start!” “What should we do about this rust on the tailgate?" Dad, "put plywood over it, we’ll paint it to match!" "Great!” That was a hoot!!!
Edward was a kind and forgiving man, a true gentleman. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Max, Jazz and Scooter are going to miss your pats, scratches and kisses! There is a big hole in our hearts now that you are gone.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2023, at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg, with viewing prior to service. Luncheon to follow. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m., at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
