JAMES MELVIN MINAKER

With great sadness we announce the passing of James Melvin Minaker at Teulon Hospital June 16, 2023 at the age of 80 years.

After a lengthy battle with colon cancer. Jim fought so hard to stay with us.

He is survived by his partner Janet Hagen of 27 years and his favourite sister Jessie and her son Phillip. He is also survived by Janet's sons, Ken (Tamara) and Kevin; grandchildren, Whyatt, Isabel, Grayson, Odin and Zoey.

He is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Jean Minaker.

He grew up mostly in the Grosse Isle area. He farmed with his father for many years, but trucking was in his blood. He drove long haul for many years, eventually starting his own business, Dorsey Road Gravel. He loved what he did, and he was a very hard worker. He would help anyone if they needed it. He worked for the R.M. of Rosser gravelling roads for over 25 years.

Jim and Janet travelled to Mazatlan, Mexico for many years visiting with their Mexican families.

In later years spending the winters in Mesa, Arizona. Jim loved telling stories, and if he used the phrase "to make a long story short" it was going to be a long one...

A special thank you to Mike Palmer and Laura Kapusta for all they did to make Jim's last months as comfortable as possible. Also the staff at Teulon Hospital, Stonewall Hospital, and Stonewall Homecare for their care and compassion given to us all.

At Jim's request there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grosse Isle Heritage Site, Box 34, Grosse Isle, Manitoba ROC 1GO, or to grosseisleheritage@gmail.com by e-transfer.
