WILLIAM JAMES DUECK
William James Dueck passed into glory on June 28, 2023. He was born on March 25, 1944, in Winnipeg, and became the chosen son of Peter and Susan Dueck. He grew up mostly in Oak Bluff, however spent 5 years living in North Kildonan.
In 1955, at the age of 11, he went to Camp Arnes and there accepted the Lord as His personal Savior. In August of 1961, he was baptised in the old South End M.B. Church (now Portage Avenue Church).
After completing Grade 11, that’s as far as that school taught, he went to work in Winnipeg, first at Versatile one year and then at Pioneer Electric for the next five years. In his 20’s he went to the University of Manitoba to complete an agricultural diploma.
In 1968, he married Linda Hildebrand and they moved into an apartment in Winnipeg. During their first year of marriage, he was put on the graveyard shift. They didn’t appreciate this lifestyle and so built a chicken barn and went into the laying hen business besides grain farming with Bill’s parents. They purchased a 500 sq ft mobile home and lived in it for eleven years. During those years, three of their four daughters were born: Connie in 1970, Pamela in 1972, and Kelly in 1974.
In February of 1979 their house trailer burned down, but thankfully everyone survived. The family moved into their new house in the same yard later that year. In 1981, Cherie was born, and their family was complete.
On March 1, 1987, their poultry barn collapsed. Due to a lot of stress, Bill was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis throughout his body in October of that year. He tried many different medications, none of which cured, but only eased the pain somewhat. He continued to farm, even through the pain. There were several years when he could do little more than just drive the tractor. The family helped him up into the tractor in the morning and back into the house at the end of the evening. The next day he went through the same process again.
He continued to farm to varying degrees of ability, as his body would allow. He was still making farming decisions even into the last days of his life. Farming brought him great joy. He continued to farm with his wife Linda by his side right until the end of his days.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife Linda of almost 55 years; children: Connie (Brian Cooper), Pamela (Andreas Hartmann), Kelly, Cherie (Dan Harlton); and grandchildren: Nicole, Austin, Avery, Alexander, Jaxxon, and Jameson. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Susan Dueck, as well as granddaughter Lauren Cooper.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 6, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at the Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Avenue.

So very sorry for your loss Linda and family. Hildebrand Christmas gatherings won't be the same. I regret to say we won't be at the funeral. We are out of province vacationing with all our children/grandchildren. You are all in our thoughts and prayers; we plan on watching the service online. - Posted by: Howard & Wanda (Nephew) on: Jul 03, 2023

My condolences to Linda and the family. I knew Bill since he was a little boy who had a strong interest in becoming a farmer when he grew up! I and my brother Ed reconnected with Bill several years ago when we were in Manitoba for a visit. I am glad we stopped to see Bill on his farm and had a wonderful chat with him! …..Art Penner (Abbotsford BC) - Posted by: Art Penner (Acquantaince ) on: Jul 03, 2023
