Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of our dad, Barrie Campbell Burch, on Saturday, July 1st, at the age of 87.
He is survived by his loving family, daughter Cheryl (Dave) Powers, son Terry (Diane) Burch, brother Bill (Eleanor) Burch, and brother-in-law Alvin (Jeanne) Jones. He was predeceased by his wife May Burch and son Brad Burch. He was also predeceased by two half-sisters Margaret (John) Phillips and Eva (Bob) Phillips, and two half-brothers Cecil (Ethel) Burch and Delmer (Pat) Burch.
Barrie was born to Samuel Edward Burch and Lovina Jane Burch at the home farm North of Carberry, MB. His early education was in Petrel and Wellwood. He went on to Brandon College where he met May and fell in love. He graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree. They married in 1958 and moved to Calgary. He worked in the oil and gas sector for several years before returning to school. He acquired a Bachelor of Education at the University of Calgary and taught at Ernest Manning High School. He then returned to the oil and gas industry, and held several managerial positions over 30 years working as an exploration geologist, and 20 years as a consultant recruiting oil and gas employees.
His recreation time was spent skiing in the winter and golfing in the summer, while maintaining an immaculate yard and garden. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, close family and friends who are all saddened by his passing. Dad was very proud of the scholarship he created with several generous donations to the Brandon University. He was a very gracious man and his legacy will be his kindness, compassion, love for all and the opportunities provided through the Brandon University Scholarship.
We would like to thank the staff of United Active Living - Fish Creek, for the wonderful care received. And a special thank you to the staff at Intercare -Southwood Hospice for their kindness, compassion and the care over the last several months. Thank you to Reverend Bill Weaver, for his many visits and prayers with Dad and our family. Thank you to the many family and friends who visited and called in Dad’s final months. He was very appreciative of the love and kindness shown by all.
A private family service has been held. If you desire, in lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice.
