Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEFFREY THOMAS ANTON HAK
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jeff, beloved son, brother, and frozen pizza connoisseur, at the age of 29 in Whitehorse, Yukon.
Jeff was caring and loyal to his family and friends. As a toddler he defended his baby sister fiercely when another toddler bit Kelsey's foot and Jeff persistently asked his mom, "which boy did it? I just want to talk to him." Mom knew better than to out the perpetrator.
Jeff didn't like messy hair. In his early elementary years, he insisted that dad shave him bald, which left mom with the task of explaining to some very sympathetic teachers that he was, in fact, NOT undergoing chemotherapy.
Halloween was always a very important time of year for Jeff to express his creativity and demonstrate his resourcefulness. Among the family favourites are: the time he was SEWN into a partially hollowed out giant teddy bear (he fasted to resolve the "bathroom issue"), the triple prize-winning astronaut costume complete with papier mâché helmet and ski goggles for visor, and finally, the carved pumpkin faithfully worn on his head for an evening.
As a young adult, Jeff jumped into a pool without hesitation when a young family friend slipped into the deep end. Jeff was always proud of being able to help in this situation, even though it was to the detriment of his cell phone. Another proud moment was his 2017 trip around the world in 76 days.
Jeff lived most of his life in Winnipeg where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Manitoba. In 2021 Jeff chose to continue his education and show his love for nature by pursuing a Renewable Resource Management diploma at Yukon University. Although Jeff spent most of his life in Winnipeg, he felt most at home in the Yukon.
In the final years of his life, Jeff struggled with an alcohol addiction and despite his efforts, he was unable to overcome this burden. Jeff is survived by his parents Martin and Gail, his brother Christopher (Annie), his sister Kelsey, his niece Maya, and numerous extended family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Jeff on Friday July 14 at 7:00 p.m., at Glen Lawn, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to an addiction or mental health charity of your choice.
