ANNE DYCK
It is with peaceful hearts that we announce the passing of Anne Dyck on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at the remarkable age of 97 years.
Anne was predeceased by her husband, Albert Perry, her parents, Isaak P. Dyck and Maria Dyck (Penner) and siblings, Ike, John, Hilda, Helen, Mary and Katy. Anne will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her brother, Dr. Walter Dyck in Texas and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Anne was born in Winkler and raised in a traditional Mennonite home filled with music. As a young adult, she attended Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas, pursuing studies in operatic singing. Showing great potential, Anne was encouraged to study in England. She set on an adventure with her sister Helen and sailed to the UK. And so, her love of England began. Anne enjoyed singing with various oratorio groups in London while building a career with Olympia Business Machines. Having many opportunities to visit their German head office, Anne fluently engaged with senior management in her first language. “Fräulein Miss Dyck” was highly respected as the only woman around the board room table. Changes in technology later brought Anne to work as a business consultant for the UK government where she counselled small business “start-ups”. Anne’s accomplishments within the business community were acknowledged with an invitation to the highly coveted “Garden Party with the Queen”. Anne loved cats, sports cars, and tending to her English garden. Her passion for music continued over the years as she enjoyed attending concerts at London’s famous festival halls. At this time, Anne cultivated strong friendships with many who were involved in the arts. She opened her doors to nieces and nephews Christa, Lauren and Eric, Jon, and Paul, who were privileged to live with her while studying, working, or travelling abroad. Her sister, Helen would often visit and became an extension of her inner circle of friends. Regular visits to London from her younger brother, Wally were always cherished, as were her visits from brothers, Ike and John and sister, Mary and numerous other family members. At the age of 77, Anne married Albert Perry, one of the happiest days of her life. Although their time together was brief, they travelled to Paris and visited family in North America. Anne cared for Albert during his battle with cancer and she was supported during this time by many dear friends. Although Anne returned to Canada to be with family, her heart remained in England. During her years at the Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence, Anne appreciated time shared with her sister, Katy and brother-in-law, Rudy and Harold and Lori and Heather and Marcel. These family interactions were instrumental to her well-being. Courageous, determined, and loving, Anne exemplified grace, elegance, and perfect manners; forever the “consummate English lady”. This remained even as her dementia progressed. Anne’s timeless insights in the world of business continued with friends and family well into her later years.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the “Get U There” team who provided care, friendship and wonderful experiences fostering Anne’s love of music and gardens. We are grateful to the team at Concordia Hospital for the wonderful care provided these past three months before Anne’s last days of comfort at Deer Lodge.
A private graveside memorial service will be held for family at a future date. Donations may be made in Anne’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
