KELLI HAWKINS-ANTHONY

After a brief battle with colon cancer, with her family by her side, Kelli passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on June 27, 2023, two weeks before her 56th birthday.

Kelli will be deeply missed by her husband of 31 years, Jeremy, their daughter Emily (Ben), her parents, Terry and Vicki, brother Scott (LeeAnn), and her nieces and nephews, Tanner (Katelyn), Brady (Merel), Delaney, Katie, Elias, Lucy, and Natalia.

Kelli was predeceased by her beloved sister, Amy.

Kelli was born July 11, 1967, in Winnipeg, the middle child with glorious red hair and an infectious giggle. Terri and Vicki instilled the love of family, adventure and the outdoors in their kids; values that remained central to Kelli all her life.

After high school, Kelli completed her diploma in commercial cooking at Red River College. She enjoyed working at a catering company, as a teacher’s aide, and then for 26 years as a cook at Fred Douglas Lodge, where she went above and beyond supporting her colleagues and doing all sorts of little extras for the residents. Kelli was very talented and had several hobbies: photography, crafting, baking. She was the sugar cookie queen.

Kelli was shy as a girl, completely opposite to her brother and sister. But after going to Camp Stephens in the 1980s and meeting new friends, she lost her shyness, while revelling in her love for swimming, canoeing, and the wilderness. In 1983, Kel became a CIT at camp, and in 1984 she was invited on the Serendipity 6-week canoe trip; it was during these times that she met her lifelong friends.

Kelli and Jeremy were introduced at Clancy’s Roadhouse in December 1988. They were an instant hit! They moved in together (gasp) in 1989, travelled to England to meet Jeremy's mum in 1990. It was there, in a small seaside town, where Jeremy proposed. They were married in October 1991. Their daughter, Emily, was born in December, 1995. She completed their family.

Jeremy, Kelli and Emily shared a love of adventure, where Kelli’s values for family and the outdoors were instilled. They travelled from Birds Hill to Banff, Grand Beach to Gaspe Peninsula, the Whiteshell to Whitehorse. Throughout these travels, Kelli’s favourite place remained the family cottage on Black Sturgeon Lake. Countless weekends were spent there, summer and winter, rain or shine. She couldn't wait to get in the water, and was always the last one out.

A celebration of Kelli’s life was held Friday, July 07, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home.

The family is grateful to Dr. Bodkin, Dr. Benjamin Goldenberg, and the absolutely amazing ICU staff of St. Boniface Hospital, including Ted, Heather, Tara, and all the rest.

Flowers are gratefully declined, but for those wishing to support Kelli, please make a donation to Camp Stephens at ywinnipeg.ca/donate.

Family and friends may sign a book of condolence at www.glenlawn.ca.
