Donald Sinclair Simms passed away peacefully on July 2, 2023, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Born on September 18, 1932, on Section 15-14-22, he continued to live there his entire life.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, his daughters Donna (Doug Beever) of Calgary, AB, Sharon (Randy Boulton) of Reston, MB and Janice of Ottawa, his grandchildren Austin and Katie Beever, Joel and Scott Boulton, Devon and Bryson Connors. He is also survived by his twin sister Dorothy Taylor and several nieces and nephews.
Don was predeceased by his parents Alex and Mary (Sinclair) Simms, his infant son Kevin, his brothers Glennie and Bob, and sisters Gwennie and Doris.
Don completed his early education at Oak River and Hamiota. He furthered his education at the University of Manitoba, where he took a two-year Agriculture Diploma course.
He operated the family farm north of Oak River and married Margaret Kinnaird in 1960. He was manager at Oak River Insurance Agencies from 1969 -1997.
Don played baseball and curled. He was active on the Memorial Rink Board, Oak River United Church Board, Oak River Agricultural Society, UGG Local Boards and Oak Dale Seniors Housing Board.
A service was held at Oak River United Church on July 8, 2023 with the burial at White Bank Lea. Donations may be made in Don’s memory to the Oak River Church Memorial Fund, Box 116, Oak River, ROK 1T0.
