DEBORAH (DEBBI) JOANNE WATERS

October 18, 1954 - June 25, 2023

It’s with sadness we announce the passing of Deborah (Debbi) Joanne Waters, Sunday, June 25, 2023. Deb passed away following complications with pneumonia but gratefully not before she was able to see family and friends, share memories and spread her special blend of joy and love.

Debbi leaves brother Bill (Bev); sisters, Sharon and Wendy; and much-loved nieces and nephews to mourn her passing. Debbi is predeceased by her mother Margaret (Kulchyski) and father William.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at ICU/Health Sciences Centre for their care and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the: Debbi Waters Memorial Fund, The Winnipeg Foundation, 1350 One Lombard Place, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3B 0X3, http://www.wpgfdn.org/debbiwaters

The family requests that you visit Debbi’s tribute page at www.alternacremation.ca.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I was deeply saddened to hear of Debbi’s sudden passing. She was a fixture in Woseley for many years. Not only a customer and employee, we became fast friends and had many many good times cooking, garage saleing and singing. She was a poet extraordinaire! She was a person you listened to when she spoke. She was articulate and wise! She spoke the truth and spoke her mind about it! I’ve missed her over the years and it was only by fluke I heard of her passing. I hope she’s still writing and sitting close the creator (he will be enamoured with her joy and exuberant energy! Amother brilliant artist gone gone too soon.! - Posted by: Candis Militere (Friend ) on: Aug 06, 2023

  • Debi (she preferred spelling with one "b") was an incredible poet and friend. We met through Zygote where we published her poetry several times. She was also published in several literary magazines and her own chapbook. But, the real gift was to hear her perform as she made her poetry come alive. For thirty years we exchanged words, thoughts, and sorrows. I will miss you dearly my beautiful friend. - Posted by: Eva Weidman (friend) on: Jul 28, 2023

  • Will miss my auntie Debbie, who always took the time to sing me silly happy birthday songs even when I turned 30. I will miss our phone calls about our favourite cooking shows and new recipes we had tried. Hope your having a five course meal somewhere ❤️ - Posted by: Emma (Niece ) on: Jul 18, 2023

  • I met Debbi in high school at Vincent Massey early 70’s last I saw her living in WOLSELEY near my current location. Amid endless reunion tracking & reminiscing we would ask where she was/ any news? Sadly this news yet her tribute fills in the gaps - from awkward high school thru relocation, travel and family, medical dynamics. true to herself, what a character.
