THEODORUS (TED) VANDERZALM

June 7, 1935 - July 6, 2023

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our dad, Ted, at Concordia Hospital on July 6, 2023.

He was predeceased by our mom, Leonie, on March 17, 2019. Ted is survived by his children, Andre (Estelle), Jeanet (Arnar) and Phil (Kathy), and by his grandchildren, Nicolas, Caroline, Braeden, and Brielle.

Mom and Dad immigrated from Wassenaar, Netherlands in 1969. Dad was employed as a gardener at Assiniboine Park’s English Garden and Kings Park. He had passion for woodworking, gardening and, always busy helping us, family and friends with home improvement projects. Dad was truly a jack of all trades, as he wasn’t afraid to fix anything.

Dad was a devoted husband and father. He always put his family first. After Mom’s stroke Dad brought Mom home on weekends from Meadowood Manor to spend time with Dad and our family. It was always so nice to hear staff where he resided compliment us on his sweet, kind demeanor.

Dad instilled a great work ethic in us by his dedication of countless hours volunteering at St. Emile Catholic Church.

Sincere thanks to Seine River, Brightwater Senior Living and Concordia Hospital for the dignified and compassionate care given to Dad.

As per Dad’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral.

Family and friends may sign a book of condolence at www.glenlawn.ca.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Living beside Ted for over 10 years was truly amazing. He was such a kind soul and a sweet man. There’s nothing we wouldn’t do to help each other out. Almost 7 years we shovelled his driveway during the winter, exchanged treats during the holidays talked over the fence for hours. So many memories. We loved his big Chow Teddy and teddy loved us too. We always spoke to Ted and Leonie and we were there for him when she passed. I will always miss having you as a neighbour. I truly miss you every time I go outside. Rest easy Friend. We miss you. - Posted by: Pearase (Neighbours, Friends) on: Sep 05, 2023
