It is with heavy hearts and sadness we announce that on July 10, 2023, Joan passed due to complications from a stroke and received her angel wings to Heaven.
Joan leaves behind her dearly cherished husband of 65 years, Stan, and her adored daughter Kellie (Jack). She was predeceased by her special angel daughter Janet on July 10, 2020.
Mum was born on November 16, 1938, to Nick and Anna Sawchuk. She was an exceptional wife and mother who was always devoted to her husband and kids, full of love, hugs, kisses and had a generous heart, especially at Christmas time. Mum and Dad held many Ukrainian Christmas’ at their home for many years entertaining 40 to 60 people for dinner and drinks.
Mum and Dad were a very active couple, whether it be shopping, meeting friends for lunch or going to the casino. They especially enjoyed going to Kellie and Jack's home and seasonal trailer site for BBQ’s. Mum also loved to help Kellie with her flowers. She was adored by many people. She was very fashionable and was complemented often. Mum also loved her fur babies, Carmel and Smokey, like they were her grandchildren and they loved her back.
The family would like to thank the paramedics and staff at the Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion towards Joan.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., in the reception room of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. at Henderson Hwy. A private family interment will be held at a later date at All Saints Cemetery.

Mum, I cant even explain the sorrow, sadness and loneliness I'm feeling for you. Mum you guided me when I was young and even to the last moment you guided me with your hand squeezes. Mum I’m trying my hardest to look after dad and he is with us every day and has suppers with us. Mum I miss our everyday morning coffees every day for years. Mum you were always my inspiration and I feel very fortunate to have had a Mother for a wonderful 59 years. Mum you were not only my mother you were my best friend, you listened all the time complain and you were always there for me with all my hospital stays. Mum I guess it was time to gain your Angel Wings while Janet opened the gates to Heaven with her cute little grin on her face seeing you coming to be with here even though you left us the same day Janet Gained her golden child Angel Wings. Joan, my dear cousin but you were more to me like my sister. Joan, you were special in my life in many ways who always came to our dances with the Ukrainian Oldtimers laughing, dancing and always smiling. I will miss all your visits , meals, chatting about the old times with family. Thank you for all the good times we had together, the hugs and all your love you gave me all over the years. Even though we didn’t see each other much in the later years, Aunty Junie was always in my heart. In the early years I loved spending the many Boxing Day dinners at her house. She always had the cherry chocolates and Pot of Gold chocolates which I still buy every year and think of Aunty Junie! Any time I saw her, she always welcomed us with a big hug and kisses!!
