MATHILDE RUTH DOUGLAS

May 6, 1936 - July 14, 2023

Peacefully, after a short stay at Riverview Health Centre, Ruth Douglas (nee Knight) went to be with her Lord and Saviour.

Ruth was gifted a piano by her late sister, Lillian Tuckett, as she wanted her little sister to learn how to play. Little did anyone know the passion that Ruth would develop for music; she could play anything requested. She was a born teacher and shared that passion with many students, including all her grandchildren throughout the years. Ruth was able to obtain her ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto.

For 25 years, our mom was the organist for North Kildonan United Church.

Ruth married the love of her life, Allan on July 27, 1956. They doted on each other every day and raised their children in North Kildonan. Together, they purchased land at Lake of the Woods in 1977 and built a cottage for the family out of love.

For many years, our parents were able to enjoy winters in Texas. Our dad’s health was difficult and our mom sought to make his life as comfortable as she could. She had to cancel many activities but caring for her husband was first and foremost. The most difficult day of our mom’s life was when she had to move our dad into Kildonan Personal Care Home. She lost the love of her life on September 15, 2008.

The last few years of Ruth’s life were spent at Irene Baron Eden Centre. She brought joy to all the residents by playing piano. Everyone enjoyed the music played from hymns, to Frank Mills and all the Broadway hits. In addition to her musical ability, Ruth took on the role of ambassador at Irene Baron. The staff always appreciated Ruth’s ability to welcome new fellow residents. We so appreciate the entire staff at Irene Baron for their constant care and compassion towards our mother.

She is survived by her children, Karen (Jerry), Randy (Sandy), and Bradley (Connie), seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

A private Celebration of Life will be held. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me,

I was once was lost and now I’m found was blind but now I see
