ERIC ARTHUR SPITZKE
After a long battle with cancer, Eric passed peacefully at Health Sciences Centre with his family by his side on July 18, 2023.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 64 years, Gail, his children, Janet, Derrick (Sharon), Stuart (Laureen) and his sister, Ruth, brother-in-law, Barry (Debbie), sister-in-law, Tanis (Hans). Predeceased by his son, Kevin, father, Alexander, mother, Emma, brother Leo and sister Olga. He was a devoted grandfather to Clint, Aylicia (Tyler), Keaton (Katrina), Mackenna, Alex, his great-grandson, Zion and was a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews. Eric’s commitment and dedication to all his family was endless and without condition.
Eric was born in Minitonas, Manitoba on September 28, 1936 and moved to Winnipeg where he met Gail and married on April 4, 1959. At the start of his varied and successful employment, he worked with the railroad as a driver for Canadian Linens and a bus driver for City of Winnipeg Transit. He then moved into sales selling World Book Encyclopedia, which led him to a long career as a top agent and eventually into management with London Life until he retired in 1992.
Eric loved his yearly trips to BC, and spending time with family and friends at Hillside Beach Trailer Park where in 1974, he helped establish one of the most successful co-operatives in the province and was an active member of the board for many years. He participated in bowling and curling leagues, but his real passion was golf. He was a member of the Garden City Seniors Club for many years and developed many friendships during his time there. Eric was a loving and caring family man, who devoted his life to his entire family. His leadership and love will not be forgotten.
Our most heartfelt appreciation to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, Ward 4E, for their excellent care of our dad.
Celebration of Life will be held on July 27, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, you may consider making a donation to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160 - 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E OV9 (email: donate@cancercare.md.ca) or charity of your choice.

I started working at London Life in 1971 and worked with Eric until he retired. They were wonderful years and we had so much fun, both in work and out socially. I am so sad that he is gone and that I haven't seen him for so many years. I saw him a couple of times after I moved to Edmonton in 1997. I made a number of trips to Winnipeg, usually long weekends, just enough time to spend with my family, especially as mom and dad got older. Gail, it must be so difficult to be without him, you two were so close. Janet, Derrick & Stuart, I know how hard it is to lose a parent, especially someone as special as your father. And Tanis and Hans, I now khow close you were to him too. To all of you, please accept my heartfelt condolences. Shedding tears as I write this. He has always been in my thoughts. I have never forgotten what Joe Legal used to say about Eric. He's one in a million. He was right. Love Donna - Posted by: Donna Wraith (work colleague and close friend) on: Dec 05, 2023
