WILFRED BERCIER

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, papa, and great-papa Wilf Bercier.

Wilfred James Bercier of Dauphin Manitoba passed away peacefully on July 23, 2023, at the age of 84 years.

Wilf was born on June 28, 1939, to Harry and Margaret Bercier in Elphinstone, MB. He was the second youngest of his three siblings.

In his early years Wilf loved to hunt, fish, curl, and play softball. He continued to play fastball into adulthood. He was a great pitcher, however, certainly not the fastest guy on the team. His teammates would tease him that he was the only player that could hit a home run and only make it to second base.

Wilf met the love of his life Margery Bercier (nee Polnik) in Brandon, MB, and they were married on April 27, 1963. Wilf often told the story (with a smirk) of when he first met Marg - Marg was speaking Polish and told her girlfriend that Wilf was cute. She didn’t know at the time that Wilf understood some Ukrainian and Polish.

Shortly after he and Marg married came news of a baby on the way. To ensure he could provide for his family Wilf worked day and night for two years. Electrician during the day and Safeway at midnight.

Wilf and Marg were overjoyed as they grew their family to four with the additions of a son, Darian, and daughter Kim.

Together the family spent most of their summers at Sandy Lake and Thomas Lake where they enjoyed camping, fishing and campfire get-togethers.

Wilf was a natural storyteller and had a great sense of humour. It was easy to find him in a crowd, as you just had to find where the laughter was coming from. Whether it be the latest knock-knock joke, a story from his past, or an April Fool’s joke, Wilf loved making people laugh.

He began has career with Safeway at the young age of 16. In 1978 Wilf was offered a store manager position in Dauphin, where he worked until retirement.

Wilf loved his family more than anything, and with open arms welcomed son-in-law Greg and daughter-in-law Terry into the family. His heart was quickly captured by his grandchildren Nicholas and Katherine who became his world.

He cherished being with them and looked forward to each day as he drove them to and from school. He loved to take his time telling stories as he drove his grandkids around town, unless he was going to a garage sale. Then it was full speed ahead. Wilf loved to yard sale, often pulling into the driveway to show off the special treasures he had found for his kids, grandkids and most recently his great-grand kids.

Wilf was very proud of all his family, however, once he became a great-grandfather those great-grandkids became his pride and joy. Smiling ear to ear he was always ready to show anyone whom he chatted with their pictures or video clips.

Wilf’s world was forever changed with the passing of his beloved wife Marg in December 2021. His love was lost, and his heart was shattered. We know you are at peace now being reunited with your Margie.

We will forever miss your calls, texts messages and visits. Rest peacefully dad, papa, great-papa.

Wilf was predeceased by his parents Harry and Margaret Bercier, brothers Jack and Henry Bercier, and wife Marg Bercier (nee Polnik).

Wilf will be missed by all who survive him, son Darian and Terry (nee Bosiak) of Dauphin; daughter Kim and Greg Procyshyn of Dauphin; grandson Nicholas Procyshyn and Elisabeth Saftiuk and great-granddaughter Ruby of Winnipeg; granddaughter Katherine (nee Procyshyn) and Evan Turner and great-grandsons James, Tyler, and Riley of Chestermere, Alberta; sister Eloise (nee Bercier) and Ken Gosnold.
