RONALD G. CLARKE
With much sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Ronald Gerald Clarke, on July 9, 2023, at the age of 89 at the Victoria General Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Romana (Roma); sons, Steven (Kirsten) of Guelph, ON and William; grandson Colton with his mother Crystal; nephews, David of Edmonton, AB, Donald (Bonnie) of Hartney, MB, Walter (Pat) Briggs of Chilliwack, BC and niece Darlene (Roger) Plowman of Brandon, MB.
Ron was born in Winnipeg on January 22, 1934, but grew up in Brandon. He moved to Winnipeg in 1965 to start a career of almost 32 years in the Municipal Affairs Department, Province of Manitoba, eventually joining The Municipal Board until his retirement. As a civil servant, he always strived to serve the public with fairness and dignity.
Ron and Roma were married in 1969 and were blessed with their two boys. He was a devoted husband and father, enjoying the boys growing and participating in their many activities at school or sports. Memorable vacations to Florida, road trips to North and South Dakota and weekend trips to Grand Forks and Fargo were eagerly anticipated. Summer days at the beach or lake, especially West Hawk Lake, were filled with joy and laughter.
As a youngster in Brandon, Ron enjoyed going to the movies. This led to a lifetime hobby of reading information about film history, actors and all aspects of classic cinema. If you wanted information about the golden age of Hollywood, Ron was the one to ask – he always knew the answer.
In retirement, trips to Florida, Las Vegas and Vancouver were always enjoyed. He had more time for visiting book and video stores and meeting friends for brunch or coffee, which brought him great pleasure. The birth of his grandson in 2015 brought much joy and happiness in the last few years.
The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. F. Salem and his dedicated staff for the many years of care and kindness. Gratitude is also expressed to the Urgent Care team at the Victoria Hospital for all they tried to do for Ron in his final moments.
Cremation has taken place and in keeping with Ron’s wishes, no service will be held.

I would like to pass on my condolences to Roma and the boys. I had the pleasure of working with Ron at Budget and Finance Branch and The Municipal Board. He was a very smart and kind and respectful co-worker. He always spoke very highly of his family and was beyond proud of his sons. I also remember him being a devoted son visiting his mom on his lunch hours so that she wouldn’t feel lonely. I wish you peace in your time of sadness. - Posted by: Irene and Thom Hinks (Uper) (Co-worker) on: Aug 27, 2023

Fifty years ago I took a year off university and worked at what was called the Provincial Jobs Office. I had the opportunity to work with Ron during that year. In my subsequent career as a lawyer we never connected again, but I still recall what a wonderful man Ron was. He was always gracious in dealing with others and willing to impart his knowledge. He was as good a man as I have ever met. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Cy Fien (Business associate) on: Jul 30, 2023

My condolences to Roma and family. I was Ron's secretary in the Budget and Finance Branch on Edmonton Street. We shared the same birthday and always celebrated the day at work. He was a wonderful and kind man and he will be missed by his family and friends. Rest in Peace Ron. - Posted by: Janice Rathbone (co-worker) on: Jul 29, 2023
